I ordered a #11 combination yesterday...a burrito, an enchilada, and a taco.  I specified ground beef and no onions (I'm allergic to them, but the aftereffects are relatively mild if I limit intake).  My platter came out and the filling was at least half onions.  I'm talking about the ground beef was #2 in the order of predominance of ingredients.  I should have taken a pic, but we were in a hurry to get to a ball game and this was a developing crisis. The manager arrived quickly and told me that the ground beef is cooked with onions, which is ordinary and to be expected.  We went back and forth several times about the absolute volume of included onions, resolving the matter by me ordering steak instead of ground beef.  Those versions of my preferred items were hot and delicious, but seriously, the ground beef filling shouldn't be 60% onions, even for people that like and can eat onions. The manager was respectful and friendly, as was our server, Destiny. If you enjoy hot stuff, ask for the habanero salsa.  It is very red, very fruity--as habaneros should be, and quite hot.  It's rare that a Mexican-type food place has salsa that gives me a good burn, but El Porton has some.  Try it if you are a pepperhead or are adventurous.

I visited El Porton for a late lunch while waiting for my car to get serviced and my experience was mixed. Their pros are amazing staff & fast service but food needs a major makeover to get to 5 stars. They had very attentive staff who never left any customer unattended. I got lost finding the restroom but a staff member who was eating, still took the time to point me in the right direction. Ambience was very casual. Although I loved the outdoor barrel seating, I settled for a seat next to the bar. While waiting for my order, I was served the crunchy & yummy chips & salsa. They were too addictive:) And the Taco salad arrived within 15 minutes. It looked cute with the piped whipped cream and neatly plated taco. Here's the but: Taco salad tasted bland, chicken was chewy, the shell was soggy and lacked flavors. It was surprisingly disappointing as until then, the restaurant had checked off every other box. Food's the main reason why customers frequent restaurants, so I really hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improve the quality standards.

Came in during the World Cup, seated right away and drink orders were quickly taken. We ordered the mezcal margarita, skinny margarita and lemon drop margarita. All delicious, but they were all $12 each which seems over priced for the size. The salsa was great and had some heat to it, also didn’t have cilantro which my husband loved. We weren’t given more chips, but also didn’t ask. Our food orders were taken after our drinks got to us and the food came out fast, hot and yummy. The Enchiladas Berde also did not have cilantro in it-bonus! “Ketty” helped with bringing the food out. Inside, the restaurant is clean and laid out well, not on top of each other where we can hear other conversations. Estefan was our waitress, and she was very nice and checked in on us. This was our first time coming here and will definitely return!

8/20/24:UPDATED AGAIN: Probably not going back here again which I truly hate..... I ordered chicken nachos with extra cheese and the cheese was not extra and it was watery! 🤪 so then I traded out for a Speedy & the taco meat was lukewarm 🤦‍♀️ how do you not have hot tacos at lunch? They just don't care obviously...🙄😬😔 &BTW, they need to go back to their old salsa recipe which wasn't so hot! 🥵 6/12/24 - UPDATED: been meaning to do this for some time and today's poor service prompted me. I know most restaurants' service has gone down and the prices have gone up since COVID. The service is just horrible now...very slow. Also - they changed their salsa to be pretty hot. :((( 🥵 🍅 🌶️ And that was one of my favorite parts as you can see from my previous review. 😭 They may have changed the chips, too, to be thinner, which I don't prefer. Also, I am sure they are doing this to cut costs, however they are serving the chips in teeny little baskets now. If the service was quick and you could get refills easily I guess this wouldn't be a problem, however this is not the case. 🐌 Saturday, my husband and I went for lunch and sat in the bar (not AT the bar). It literally took 10 minutes for our server to come and we had to ask the 'chip/salsa' lady to find out where our server was and there weren't many people in the place. She was at least nice and helpful once we got her. But since the salsa is now so hot, my mouth was burning since we had to wait on the late server to bring waters. Today, (Wed), I went for lunch at 11:30 and sat on the patio. It was a gorgeous day so you would think that they would have it in their minds that the patio would get increasingly busy. Not. There was one lady already out there and she said she had been waiting for 15 minutes for someone. She did have her chips and salsa, but again, couldn't place a drink order since server never showed. She had just gone inside to ask where her person was. She and I talked for at least 5 minutes about how bad their service is now and her server finally came. I never got chips and salsa and then my server came after 10 minutes. I ordered and he acted irritated that the chips/salsa girl had not been by. Finally she came and then I got my drink, and then a little later, my food. He brought me another refill with my food, but then never came back to give me another refill! AND I had to ask for more chips, again, since those new baskets are so teeny and he finally brought them after I had finished my meal. Again, I understand that hiring help is super hard. I don't know what the answer is. They even have those little robots delivering food though the server has to follow. I wouldn't be so irritated if this hadn't been happening for so long. Only reason I still go is because of the food. (I go here for Tex-Mex but Hola Taqueria for Baja Style.) Michael is the only server that is good. Ask for him if you go. And PLEASE change the salsa back to not being so hot and go back to using the larger baskets for the chips since there aren't enough servers to bring refills. 🙏🙏🙏 One side note: the greenery on the patio in the railing is way out of control and looks tacky. They should trim it back, at least to be no higher than the top rail...and it isn't even on the left side (from inside the patio)...I think they should put those window-box style hanging flower baskets. Also - don't like all homemade wooden carpentry-type things around. Just looks weird. 🤭🙃

Myself and 2 others went there on a Friday night around 9 pm. They were busy, but not slammed.

While waiting at the bar for a table to open up, my gal pal ordered a draft beer. Not only was the beer warm, but it had a funny taste to it. She mentioned this to the bartender who took the beer from her and simply dumped it down the drain. Then turned around without offering a different drink and served other customers. We had to ask for another beer since he poured the almost full beer down the drain.

After being seated let me say our waitress was AWFUL. We ordered cheese dip and another round of drinks which took close to 25 minutes to reach the table. Luckily for us we were sitting by the bar, and could see our drinks that were poured just sitting there for the 20 minutes. I almost got up and served ourselves. At one point, we witnessed three beers sit on the pickup station for 40 minutes until they were served to someone. Simply unacceptable.

When the food did arrive, it was alright. That's the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one. Not once after the food was served, did the server come to ask if everything was okay. I had to actually flag down another waitress to ask for the check.

Well check time comes. We split the bill up having 2 tickets on mine and one on another. We left a tip on one of the checks, but not the other. Monday rolls around, and I see a double tip that they added in on the other check. Needless to say it has been disputed. This place deliberately wrote in another tip. DON'T COME HERE. Shady business and staff and...

First of all, my husband and I have been going there for 15 years. It's always been a bit hit or miss with service but food made up for it. Went in today and the food was an epic fail and service worse than ever. Food arrived and refried beans were liquid. The waiter said that's because the ranchero sauce from the chicken mixed with it. I told him that I don't mix my rancheros sauce with my beans and he said he would get me a new order of beans.....they never showed up and he came by 10 minutes later while the mariachi band was blaring in my ear and smiled, said something and gave me a thumbs up. I didn't know what he said but assumed he meant my refried beans were on the way. I had pretty much finished the rest of my food but just nodded since I couldn't respond anyway. Never got the beans and then he just disappeared. We wanted our tab and a to go box. I had to find my own to go box and finally had to find someone to ask to get our bill. Got the bill and they charged me for New York Strip steak ranchero - $15 and I asked the guy who gave me the bill if this was correct because I ordered chicken and thought it was lower. He said no, it's the same price. This was the manager I was talking to so I told him what happened with my meal and he did NOTHING!...
