So this will be a very interesting review...
We visited after bowling at the lanes opposite this restaurant.
I have been very fortunate having visited Japan many times, so I always have some hesitation with US sushi restaurants especially in strip malls.
When we went in, my heart sank when I looked at the fish in the display counter - there was nothing that looked fresh. It was very tired and no way I would eat any of it. That's where the evening improved - I asked the chef if they had any fresh fish as I didn't want to eat anything on display. He pulled out a perfect looking salmon and also a fatty salmon - they were incredibly fresh and looked perfect. I had 5 of each - at $3 per nigiri it is amazing value. I asked the chef if there was anything else I should order - he declined even though there were 10+ other fish on the menu.
So my feelings are very mixed. On balance I am going to give a high score - my only advice is buyer beware - if you do not understand or know how to identify fresh fish then be very, very careful. If you do know fish then go with confidence and just ask the chef what is fresh. He is incredibly open and honest and at $3 per portion it is...
Read moreI’ve been going here since well before the pandemic. They were amazing then and are still phenomenal.
They have created a safe little to-go area so that you are literally not exposed to anyone when you go to pick up your food. The sushi (I got tuna rolls) was beyond delicious. It was so fresh, that I didn’t realize that the sushi I’ve gotten from other restaurants doesn’t taste quite the same. If eating sushi could give me a nice warm and comforting hug, that is what those tuna rolls did.
Very reasonably priced, kind and respectful staff and some amazing sushi chefs and kitchen chefs. My kid doesn’t eat much, but she loves the miso soup, hibachi noodles and sushi (if I get a cooked roll).
Any who, while I’d recommend this place to anyone in the area, this review is more for the staff and owner. We love you and thank you for staying open! I hope that your community can continue to...
Read moreWe have been regular customers of Ichiban sushi for 5 years. Sometimes takeout orders weren't perfect, but we kept quiet. Once again, a Tuna Tataki was in our order and the fish was "smelly", not fresh. We called the Ichiban and said that we got a spoiled and extremely stinking, not fresh fish. A chef couldn't help but notice that the fish smelled , which meant he prepared the order (with smelly tuna) intentionally. A manager had proved to us for a long time that we were wrong, that we didn't understand anything about fish and that everything was fresh. As a result, we had severe diarrhea that night. In return, we were offered "a credit for two Tuna Tataki for the next order." A very, very strong disappointment in the lack of professionalism of the restaurant management. Unfortunately, there is no respect for...
