This is one of my favorite places in Texas to get barbecueāSoulmanās in general, not just precisely this location.
I am a native Texan, and I think I could honestly say that I would choose to go to Soulmanās over some of the more famous standalone barbecue restaurants throughout Texas.
The meat is always gracefully cooked and prepared to perfection, the portions are satisfying, and the flavors in many of their side options exceed someoneās expectations.
I always get a sausage or brisket sandwich on a round bun, ranch house beans, fried cabbage, jalapeƱo corn, and banana pudding. Each one of the sides I just listed is always phenomenal, and itās what keeps me coming back. I often think about them when itās been a while since I havenāt got to eat them. The ranch house beans, jalapeƱo corn, and fried cabbage are very well seasoned and pack a lot of flavor, which is what I admire about each one of them. The banana pudding is always fresh and curated perfectly. It hits the spot every time! Iāve also had their Pecan Pie a few times, which was very good every time. If I had a reason to write letters back home these days, each one of these dishes is something I would rant and rave about.
I also love that most of their locations offer an ice cream machine with cones free of charge for the guests who dine in and prefer a light dessert afterward.
I frequently stop at this location when passing through and traveling down I-30 since they have an abundant amount of truck parking. Youāre almost always guaranteed to grab a spot here later in the evening, and you even enjoy an award-winning dinner. 10/10...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe great thing about this place is trucker friendly, plenty of room for big rigs. Great decor, The ppl are great & super friendly. The guy that was making the tea knows how to mix it.(YES finally sumone that drains a pitcher and adds it back after the sugar"solution".)"Know what we're smokin'" WELL ITS DEFINITELY NOT THE MEAT. I absolutely love BBQ, and this is far from it. Bought almost $100 worth, because my friends told me it was good, i put it on the floor of my truck. The LACK of good smokey BBQ aroma shoulda been the first giveaway. The oily grease soaked through the tin foil to the paper bag, sign of good homestyle food. BUZZZZZZZ,dead wrong. The sauce had more smoke than the meat. The brisket was so fatty and oily it was almost inedible. 1/4 cup of oil, about a half pound of fat trimmed, and 10 BRAWNY paper towels later, my first bite brought tears to my eyes, how could anyone treat brisket this way. NO SMOKE RING, NO SMOKE FLAVOR, NO TASTE. I'm still crying for the steer. Now on to the sausage, PLAIN OLE EVERYDAY VARIETY. Nothing to write home about, NO SMOKE, NO GRILL MARKS, JUST $15 PORK FLAVOR MEATSTICK. you will get more flavor from pan frying eckridge sausage. VERY disappointed, and ashamed that I have friends that like this place,(maybe it's just the lack of options)fajitas at LOVES has better taste. As for sides "Almost Great"Homestyle BEANS(need sum SMOKE(hamburger, brisket end or pork end), pan potatoes were perfect(I shoulda got $100 worth of those). I give every place a second chance, But it might have to be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently moved to Royse City and saw Soulmans BBQ and noticed their truck all over town. I always give any restaurant a chance but Soulmans BBQ shouldn't even be considered Texas BBQ. The moment you pull into the pothole parking lot you get the feeling that the outside appearance is going to match the food quality. Probably the worst BBQ in Texas! The service was slow, food was below mediocre , and honestly really, really bad! Soulmans is the fast food of BBQ and the quality of meat and employees show it. The Brisket was so dry it was painful to eat and swallow. The sausage links were highly processed (bubbles in the meat and the consistency of bologna.) The sauce was bad and cold. If you even consider it sauce. BBQ beans were vile. Macaroni and cheese was disgusting. Looked like leftovers from last week. Okra was so dry! I don't like wasting food but I wouldn't give this to my dogs. Straight to the garbage can is where this horrible food belongs. Honestly, keep driving. Dallas has better options than Soulmans. Sadly even Dickeys is better and I dont like Dickeys! If you want real BBQ in Texas, go to Pecan Lodge, 18th & Vine, or Sonny Bryans in Dallas. Those places definitely are better than Soulmans BBQ. I'm not even sure why Soulmans BBQ is still in business. The locals must've never had good quality Texas BBQ and have to settle for second rate,...
