Hot Rod Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Ruston

Ill preface this with i very much enjoyed my meal and this place holds its own with any Tx of kc or any foe that matter bbq ive had in my travels.that being said i feel this place could beTHE BBQ PLACE with just a few small tweeks. Cole slaw was one of the best as far as flavor goes however its so chopped up its almost a pureed texture a rough cut texture would make it perfect. The brisket had great smooe flavor just needs a bit more pepper and or salt to add that little extra dimension but that being said id prefer it as it is than over salted as. Too many places do so i can appreciate a deft hand in that area. Peach cobbler considering that batch size it must be made in hits on all levels. My biggest critique i guess is the bbq sauce im glad it was on the side. As soon as it hir the tongue and nose it screams sweet pickle juice that was the overwhelmingly dominant flavor and ir didnt go away or transition giving way to any other notes. Im all for being creative trying ro put your signature stamp on a bbq sauce to make it stabd out from the thousands of sauces out there but i feel this stands out for all the wrong reasons.. i know this sounds like a negative review buy i promise its not. Putting the bbq sauce. Aside, i still enjoyed everything. Id keep going back if i pass through again. Ive had Bbq at supposed award winning places in Tx that couldnt come close to this place. I have eaten at Hot Rod Bar-B-Que in Ruston since they first opened. The food has always been great. However, they don't have corn on the cob. I went inside to place a to go order. I was so grossed out by the girl who was dipping up the side orders. She had one dirty glove on which she was touching everything with including pressing down the onions and pickles on the potato salad. Yes, she was actually touching all of the food with her nasty gloved hand. Apparently she was not trained to ONLY handle the food and not everything else including the food with her gloved hand. I came in planning to order a full plate dinner but when I saw how nasty they were handling the food that I was going to eat I only ordered a chopped beef sandwich and left. The man preparing the meat was only handling the meat and was not touching other things. I was highly disappointed and sicken by the serving girls preforming. For once I was glad that I was unable to drive through the pickup windows due to what I was driving. Otherwise I would not have seen how the food was being contaminated and ordered some side orders. I was looking through the reviews of restaurants on the internet in order to help with my dinner options after my 12+ hour work day at the local hospital. I had a taste for some smoked meat. Being from Alabama, I truly can appreciate an authentic barbecue smokehouse. I called and was helped with picking the best meal to match my preferences. After getting to my hotel room, showering and prepping for dinner and bed, I opened my package and noticed some food was missing. I called back to the establishment hoping I could just explain what happened and maybe pick up my correct order the following day after work. The manager, addressed me by name and gave a heartfelt apology. Not only did she personally drive to my hotel to deliver my food, she even brought dessert!!!
