I will start with the positives. The hospitality is as great as before. The new owner and staff are very generous and always going the extra mile to make sure the customer is happy. I have no complaints on their intents as they are extremely welcoming!
However the disappointment comes with the foods taste (in comparison to before the re-opening) and portions. When Jimmy is cooking, the food is better then when he is not, and he generously portions the food as always, but if you do go on a day when Jimmy is not working, the portion of the Gyro is about half the size as before, even with the new mark up in price. I am okay with the marked up prices if the portion size remained consistent and the same.
On to the new food's taste. I don't know if the recipes were changed or a different food supplier but the rice is a mushy yellow rice now instead of the white herb aromatic rice before.
A big piece for me is the Gyro meat has a notably different flavor with the new ownership, and it is not as desirable as before. This was a major aspect that made this restaurant stand apart from other Greek restaurants prior to the pandemic. The new meat tastes like standard halal guys gyro meat. Also the tzatziki sauce has changed. The previous tzatziki had a much crisper, fresher taste to it versus the new form.
I do not post this review to criticize the new ownership as I do understand that a new identity may be desired. However as a loyal customer for 10+ years, Jimmy's food is something that I have sorely missed and hope this does not fall on deaf ears. Please look to this as feedback for consideration of any culinary changes that were made to the...
Read moreMy husband and I are originally from NY and we are used to lamb gyros. We used to get our gyros from a place called Christos in Riverdale, NY (the Bronx) and unfortunately, the owner sold the business and moved back to Greece. Long story short, we tried a bunch of gyros from many different places and it was never as good or better than Christos. Until after a long search, we found “Greek Town Gyros!”. We saw the pictures online and the gyros looked pretty on point. When I called and asked if it was a lamb gyro, the girl on the phone told me it was part beef, part lamb. So we said forget it an hung up. What happens next was totally unexpected. Two minutes later the girl called me and said, “look just try the gyro It’s really good and people really like it. No cost, free of charge.” We went back. Not because they were for no charge but because we appreciated the fact that she called us back, and stood behind her product! No one does that anymore and thats how you do business. I even pleaded to pay for the gyros and she wouldn’t accepted it. She was more concerned with us trying their product and it wasn’t about the money. I did leave a tip at least but the gyros were at no cost. We are customers for life now and needless to say those were the best gyros we’ve had in a very,...
Read moreBest gyros around! Fries are so good! Service is always with a smile. I love this place. This is my go to spot for a really good gyro. Update: 9/22/25..so, been going here for many years and I loved this place. Not sure if it's under new management, but I felt a vibe that I've never felt before in there. I'm usually greeted by the one guy that's been there for years and he was always with a smile, and asking me how my kid is doing. Now, some guy made my sandwich, asked me if I paid, with a very blank look on his face. I said "yes, I paid already"..he then yelled something to someone in the back in another language "Spanish maybe??"..I guess he had to double check to see if I was indeed lying about not paying. Anyway, the vibe is off in there now. I dropped stars from a 5 to a 4. I will revisit once more very soon...if I'm feeling the same vibe, I will rescore and this place will just be a memory. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. The sandwich wasn't...
