Yamada Sushi — Restaurant in Rutherford

My wife and I tried their food and were sorely disappointed.

Firstly, we ordered a plate of sushi. It was good, if there's one thing I can definitely advocate for it's their sushi. The presentation was good, the flavors were great, we liked everything about their sushi.

But I can definitely also caution against ordering another of their dishes. When I was a kid my dad used to make a roasted chicken and vegetable dish. It wasn't bad, but it certainly didn't have any seasoning or any sauces in it which made it not terrible interesting to eat. Imagine my surprise when I tasted Yamada Sushi's chicken teriyaki and it tasted exactly like they took my dad's roasted chicken and vegetables dish and just added broccoli to it.

Normally when you order chicken teriyaki you have two expectations: 1. that it has chicken in it, and 2. that it has teriyaki in it. Yamada Sushi's chicken teriyaki had ZERO teriyaki flavor in it. Not a drop of any soy-sugar mixture whatsoever. It was roasted chicken and vegetables and that was it. My dad's roasted chicken and vegetables isn't something I would have paid someone to make at $9 a plate and Yamada Sushi charges double for what is basically the same thing.

Very disappointed with this place. I would always come here but this last time, they were very unprofessional. I had called at 8:50 to make sure I was still able to order and they had told me their last call was at 9:30. I asked if he could give me about 5 minutes and he told me to take my time. I called within 3 minutes but it took 17 minutes to reach them because their phone was busy. I then began to place my order and they refused even though it was before 9:30. Apparently, someone had placed an order before me which is why they could not accommodate my order. I was upset since I was already there and he agreed to take my order but once he found out I wanted to order 4 rolls he told me there was nothing he could do. If anyone wants great customer service and great sushi, go to Nizi sushi (only 3 min away). I came after to them and they were more than happy to take my order and said they would make sure they would make...

This is my first time ordering from this place. I wish I could give an amazing review like many others here about their delicious dinners. I'm giving three stars for the super fast pickup (done in 5-10 minutes!) on this Tuesday night. However, I ordered a salmon roll, spicy salmon roll, and spicy tuna roll, and the taste of all of them was not delicious. The fish was warm inside the rolls and did not taste a bit fresh. I also ordered it with brown rice, and the rice tasted like the basic brown rice you would get as a side from a Chinese food place, not sushi rice. I honestly did not eat more than 2 pieces of each. I do not know if I will order again, because I have been disappointed this first time and I do not like to be disappointed twice. Maybe their other food that is not sushi is good, and will be even better if they have it ready within 10...
