I had been to the 85C in Irvine countless times before this one was built, and I'm glad to say this location does not disappoint. Long lines, cheap fresh bread, and a happy attitude all contribute to an atmosphere near identical to that of other locations.
Setting aside its success in having the same vibe as its sibling locations, allow me to review this as if I'd never been to any 85C before.
The first thing I noticed when driving by this place was the line coming out the door. On multiple occasions, I've seen it as such. The day I went to try it myself was no different. Unfortunately, part of the reason this place can be slow is because the staff can take a while to bag up items while ringing them up, the pastries are not wrapped prior to picking them out. Maybe the slow process is intentional to make people consider picking up more pastries? Who knows. It doesn't help that this is a popular place, either.
The food here needs little review. It's honestly all amazing. Premium Milk, Egg Tarts, Choco Buns, everything you could possibly pick here tastes absolutely wonderful. It's fresh, soft, most everything comes with its own tasty filling inside, and nothing is too sweet. Many of the savory items are also very good.
The drinks here are also pretty nice, but can be just a bit weird at times. The coffee is good, and they have some very smooth plain black coffee if that's what you're into (I'm not). However, some of the better options here are their teas. They have a nice selection, and they have boba for anyone looking to make their drink more fun.
Finally, this place is decently decorated. It's modern, though I must say, a little boring? The staff seem to try to decorate it for holidays, but it kinda feels like being in the cafe of a newer office building. I wouldn't dock any stars for that though, as this is about the pastries, not how pretty the...
Read moreNot pictured: 1) milk tea - $9 is flipping expensive for that amount and it wasn't even good! 2) A slice of mango creme brulee - not great nor bad. Taste was slightly more artificial in mango flavor and couldn't taste creme brulee much. It was super light which made it easy to finish but it didn't have a great impression.
Pictured: Mango bun - there's a picture card next to these in the store. It was pictured with the filling filled all the way and looked more fluffy like but my first bite was extremely sad. Bun was more dense than expected esp bottom portion. The filling was flat and paste like. I bit and scraped off what filling there was in proportion to the bun and threw the rest of it out. Advertising card is awfully off. even the mango paste/filling didn't taste like mango! No sweetness nor tartness from a mango or ...fruit! It tastes like a gourd. Plain. I'm so confused!!
Didnt get much but didn't need to either nor spend anymore money into this hyped business. I gave one more star because staff was kind but I won't be...
Read moreJust left the store and I am beyond frustrated. I spent $40 on pastries and boba then took them to my car before realizing I forgot to buy a Thai tea for my son’s friend. I went back inside with $5 in cash to get the drink, and was told by the cashier that my total would be $5.05. I left her with the $5 and picked up the drink on instinct, telling her that I would be right back with 5 cents from my car. As I’m on my way out to get the change, the cashier proceeded to very rudely yell at me, saying that I wasn’t allowed to take the drink with me and needed to leave it there, even though she already had my 5 dollars. I was short 5 cents and was already on my way to get the change for her. I left the drink on the table, went and brought back a nickel, and told her that I was coming back with the change anyways, to which she replied very rudely. We’ve come to this 85 bakery many times and enjoy their pastries and boba, but I feel very insulted over being yelled at for a mere nickel as if I was going to...
