Visit to Alonzo’s
So far, displeased with the menu not being bilingual, given its cultural basis. Chips and salsa are akin in taste to McDonald’s French fries. Salsa tastes like canned tomato paste and ketchup with no kick. I fear that the experience, if it continues in this manner, will ultimately be watered down. Crowd seems to be elderly white people. Not surprised . At least the chicken taco plate looks semi good. With cheese on top of the beans. As such is traditional. From what I can see no veggies on the side like pico de gallo. Nor radishes. Or jalapeños. No lime either. No availability for horchata or jamaica. I ordered the grilled burrito. “Carne asada” .there was a side salad on the plate adjacent to burrito, topped with Parmesan cheese. The literal out of place topping that should never make its way to a Mexican American plate.the meat is not prepared In the way I expected. It for sure taste like the audience it caters to. Wanting to be adventurous, but too comfortable with an outing at denny’s. The burrito is covered internally with a bean paste which assaults my taste buds right away. I asked for avocado. They sliced it and threw it in there. Rice and beans seem to be complimented by the sour cream. No lime here either, or radishes. I wanted to ask for salsa but it would only add to the homemade visit to your white friends house for taco tuesday. Verdict, stay at home at learn to prepare it traditionally. You’ll save a...
Read morePozole: This is one of the best pozole I had in my life. It has everything you want in pozole. It was complex, strong, hearty, meaty, and had the right amount of oil. It makes you feel warm and refreshed on a cold day. It tasted like it was stewed for hours and was homemade; I could taste the chili and beef. The beef was so tender and there was a lot of it. I had 2 pieces of beef in every bite. The lime, cabbage, and onions cut the richness perfectly as well. It is seriously worth $15; it can feed up to 2 people. The tortilla was fresh and went perfectly with the hominy and beef. Every single bite was absolutely perfect.
Chicken Enchilada Verde: I wasn't expecting this to be so good. I was craving for pozole, but the enchilada was next level. The chicken, tortillas, and salsa verde had a perfect balance. The chicken was soft, tender, and rich, and the salsa verde cut the richness perfectly. It had the perfect amount of cheese; it didn't overpower it. It was so delicious that I wanted to order a second one, but unfortunately, they ran out. This is a great sign at a restaurant; it means everything is...
Read moreAlonzos used to be great. Their homemade soups used to be the best! Service was always excellent and the owner Wanda sweet and amazing. Since Covid reopenings, we have been in twice- last time they forgot part of my hubby’s breakfast and the service was extremely slow and lacking (with only three other tables of people and two servers) the food sub par at best. I used to drive from Yuba City for their pozole. The hot pork chicana has been lacking! More juice than meat... I’m disappointed. Today, I called to place an order to pick up... 20 20 minutes later I arrive from FairOaks and I’m still on hold... No real care or concern, just a joke about I knew I forgot something. There’s one table of 8 people and then another with 2... no reason for this lack of service. Their food was back and forth from the kitchen and “hair” on their lemons. I’m sad. I guess it’s tome to revisit...
