So my first time at Cacio started with a mea culpa moment. I apparently had a 7pm reservation (that I confirmed) and yet I thought the entire day (even telling friends about my plans) that my reservation was at 7:30pm. Total face palm moment!!! However, Cacio called to check in and they were so kind and let me know my table would be ready when we arrived, and to drive safely on this stormy night. I was fully prepared to be told they had let my reservation go because I was 30 mins late but they didn't! I know this is an intimate space and how popular they are, so I was grateful that I could still take my husband out for date night. We arrived and were greeted warmly (by Katie the owner I believe). I was mortified at my mistake but she quickly made me feel better, a kindness I appreciate. After reviewing the menus Husband and I decided on the brussel sprouts Cesar and Cheese board to start. The salad was bright and easy to eat, and the cheeses they offered were a great blend of pungent, soft, medium and milks (goat, cow, sheep etc). We then ordered the Cacio e Pepe (the namesake) and the Torchio e Granata which is torch shaped noodles in a cream fraiche base with lemon and Dungeness crab. Both were amazing! The Cacio was like eating a bowl of comfort food--warm, smoky, peppery and filling. The Torchio was bright with lemon (which I love), not overly creamy or heavy, and had plenty of crab in every bite. We finished the night with the sorbets of the day--peach champagne and blood orange. I don't even know how to explain how delicious they both were. Needless to say Husband gave himself brain freeze while inhaling said sorbet. They reminded me of the sorbet and gelato I would get every night while in Italy.
The space is small so I definitely recommend making a reservation.
Cacio has the welcoming feel of a loving grandma who wants you to come in, eat and laugh and enjoy life through your palate. What a gem for the Pocket and Sacramento to have a place built on love of...
Read moreAs new residents of the pocket, my family and I are so happy this restaurant is in our new neighborhood! We went to Cacio last night for the first time and had a fantastic experience. First: we set a reservation over the phone for a Friday and our plans changed so we called them before they opened on Friday morning to change the reservation to the next day. We didn’t leave a message and planned to call back again after they opened up. They called us back when they saw the missed call and very politely moved our reservation to the following evening. I know this seems like an unimportant note, but we thought it was a great practice to call us back even though we hadn’t even left them a message. It felt like having a friend call you back who saw they missed your call.
On to the dining experience: clearly, there’s love in the air at this place. Both of the staff we worked with were fantastically polite personalities. Once again, we felt like we were being greeted by old friends. My wife and I really loved the intimate layout and size of the place. There was never a time that we thought we were left alone too long. Even if the food wasn’t great, I’d be back by my experience with the people, alone.
The food is incredible. I had high expectations going in because the restaurant came highly recommended by a close friend with a great taste for Italian food. My expectations were exceeded. My wife and I ordered pasta dishes and our son had the meatballs and we all loved everything. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were so, so great. I over ate. Dessert was just as good and I over ate again.
This was such a wonderful evening for our family over a fantastic meal with a lot of positivity in room around us. We had a wonderful experience, and we can’t...
Read moreStopped into this cozy Mom and Pops Italian eatery for an early Mother's Day dinner. It was warm that day and the patio was nicely shaded and the large fan kept the air moving so we were comfortable. This cute bistro, ambience reminiscent of an Italian provençal lifestyle, is in a strip mall, but you wouldn't even feel that. We started with delicious drinks. My son had an imported Italian soda with real ingredients! I had a refeshing peach and pear bellini. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the menu did not have many light vegetarian pasta options that I couldn't make at home and the portions were gigantic! I would say this could be a family style dining experience. My son ordered the Pesto Trapanese and it was delicious! He enjoyed his leftovers. I ordered the pasta alla norcini with broccoli Rabe and it was pretty heavy. I had leftovers but didn't translate well heated up the next day. With that said, the food was delicious freshly prepared! The housemade chocolate ganache is a must try as well. Our lovely server and Katie, one of the owners, were so hospitable and we had a wonderful experience speaking with them. The guests that were there were obviously regulars. We overheard several warm conversations with new and established customers. We will definitely go back and share a...
