Saturday night and too hot to cook, but w/omicron currently raging, didn't really want to dine out anywhere. And too hot for patio dining. None of our standard to-go places seemed to rock my world when Better Half suggested ribs. Hadn't had ribs since forever, so responded with an enthusiastic YES!!
Better Half picked up order. Found a small, clean dining room, and a good-sized patio for outdoor dining. Hope to try the patio one of these days when it cools down.
Ordered the ribs w/the two accompanying sides. Better Half ordered same sides, but w/tri-tip entree. My ribs were outstanding. Meaty, full of flavor, moist, and not over seasoned or too salty. The sauce had just the right amount of sweet, not at all cloying like too many other rib joints, and with just the right dose of smoke and heat. Potato salad was good.
Although Better Half found his tri-tip de-lish, I thought it to be a teeny bit tough for my tastes. Perhaps because it was cooked Medium Well, and am used to Medium Rare? He, too, thought the sauce was perfect. Beans were fresh, evenly seasoned, and not mushy from having sat too long.
Split a slice of the Lemon Ice Box pie. Just the right dessert on a hot summer's evening. Nice, light flavor, kind of a cross between a key lime and lemon meringue pie. Drinks were limited to canned sodas and bottled water.
Overall, only minor change might make is the bread. A slice of cornbread, a cornbread muffin, or even some garlic bread might be more complimentary w/bbq fare than sliced sandwich bread. But restaurant is only 5 months old, and when coupled w/the challenge of opening during a pandemic, it is doing a great job. Am sure it will expand its repertoire once the economy returns to some sense of its former self. In the meantime, enjoy the best ribs and sauce Sacramento...
Read moreSo I have had this place on my list for a while now and finally made it there with some co-workers. Will be honest wasnt expecting much from the place. When we parked, there was a big 4x4 truck offloading items from looks like either Costco or Sam's Club looked their side dishes, potato salad and the beans, and the BBQ sauce. But I didn't go there for the sides i went for the MEAT and i got the biggest plate they had the 4 item Double Tri-tip and double ribs and my friend got the chicken and tri-tip. when he gave us our order we got back to office and sat down to eat however i guess i got spoiled by so many other BBQ joints not putting the sauce on the meat i forgot to ask for it on the side. so yes it was covered in BBQ sauce. i could tell it was added post smoke as he was plating it up because not ever part was covered i like my sauce on the side do the fact my Doctor tell me I'm diabetic we fight over that fact but i still do what he says to do. I did try the suaceed ribs and tritip the sauce did tatse like KC masterpiece with a little ting to it. But the meat was spot on great i cleaned the sauce off most of the meat and the meat was amazing good you could clearly see the smoke ring on the meat and it was not to overcooked still had some pull to it. the sides were as expected ok will try the collard greens next time hope they are home cooked and not from a can lol.. I will be going back here to try the hotlinks next time with the sauce on the...
Read moreAfter reading rave reviews about this place, we were excited to try it out, but unfortunately, our experience was somewhat underwhelming.
I ordered the brisket and hotlinks, accompanied by potato salad and greens. Sadly, the brisket was far from tender; it resembled a tough steak more than the succulent brisket I was hoping for. I actually don't think I was served brisket because of the cut, texture and consistency. On a positive note, the hotlinks were quite good, and the greens were absolutely delicious—definitely the highlight of the meal. The potato salad, however, was just average and didn’t stand out.
One aspect I found off-putting was how the food was drenched in BBQ sauce. While the sauce itself was tasty, it overwhelmed the other flavors and made it difficult to fully appreciate the dishes. The cinnamon water was a nice touch, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't enough to redeem the overall experience.
As someone who travels frequently and has a love for BBQ, I came in with high expectations, only to find this place to be rather average. I would never recommend coming here for brisket, as it was among the worst I've had. However, if you’re in the mood for incredible greens, this is definitely the place to go. Overall, I really don’t understand the hype surrounding this restaurant—perhaps it’s the BBQ sauce that’s capturing people’s attention, but it simply wasn’t worth the...
