Out of all the amazing restaurants/brewpubs in the Sacramento area, "Pangaea Bier Cafe" has always been consistently good ever since they opened at this very popular Curtis Park hotspot dating back to 2008. And in that stretch of time, they have had a cult following of fans that rave about their "Pangaea Burger" being the #1 burger in all of Sacramento. But they're so much more than that as they carry a full-on menu including sandwiches, nachos, wings, tacos, and salads. And of course lots of local brews on tap, wine, and even coffee.
Located directly on Franklin Blvd. and adjacent to 3rd Ave. in the Curtis Park neighborhood of Sacramento, this place is directly across the street from the iconic "Gunther's Ice Cream" parlor. Parking can be tricky but since you're more or less surrounded by lots of residential areas, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a spot to park. Maybe on a warm summer night where crowds in the dozens flock to ice cream could be a bit of an issue.
Even though I've been here several times in the past, my most recent visit was on the afternoon of Sunday 10/17/2021 at around 2:30pm. Since the weather was still warm enough to dine outside, my friend and I decided to enjoy lunch on their sizable outdoor patio. The inside itself does offer ample seating as well as a small stage area when they offer live music. Do keep in mind that they are NOT open for business on Monday and Tuesday just in case you're wondering.
As far as my lunch, I ended up going with their "Sunday Special" which was their "BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich" and a beer for the amazing low price of only $11.99 + tax. I paired this sandwich up with an iced cold "Cosmic Rays Modern Times IPA" beer and an ice water. My friend ordered their "Buffalo Hot Wings" with sides of Blue Cheese & Ranch sauce. We received a number, sat outside, and both our meals arrived within 10 minutes.
Overall, my pulled pork sandwich was hearty, messy, and delicious. The heaping portion of coleslaw made it bigger than it actually was while the crisp pickles gave it a nice balance. The pork was seasoned to perfection while the sauce had that hint of sweet and spice packed into one. I did try one of my friends hot wings and these too had the perfect coating of sauce with a generous amount of meat on the wing itself. Oh, and my beer was excellent as Cosmic Rays always puts out a great tasting IPA.
All in all, "Pangaea Bier Cafe" is an excellent restaurant/brewpub/coffee shop/live music venue packed into one. It is prime location in the heart of Sacramento with a nice diverse crowd here. When you factor in the location, eclectic ambiance, ideal indoor/outdoor seating, food portions & quality, top notch customer service, and decent prices, this place is...
Read moreCame here on Tuesday with my wife and our friends, was a very pleasant setting to chill, hang out and have a few beers. I'm normally not that big of a beer drinker but their options were pretty legit! The first one I got, which coincidentally was the strongest one at a 10.4 was the best one. unfortunately I dont remember what it's called (looks like it did its just for me) but just look for the high alcohol rating and you'll find it lol. My wife got a sour and she loved it. Our friends basically got the same things we did and we all enjoyed our drinks. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful, they even let you get a sample if you're unsure of the choices. As for the food, it was good. I got the fried chicken sandwich and was a little let down that it was so crunchy, I know, here me out. It was overly crunchy, it wasn't a balance of juicy meat and crunchy crust, it was more just a big crust if that made sense. Nonetheless I ate it and I already knew if it wasn't so overly fried, I would've loved it. My wife got the mac n cheese, it was cool, nothing to really write home about, we came more for the beers and the company anyways. But our friends got the burgers and they LOVED it so definitely going to get that next time! Regardless, we will 100% be coming back here for more get togethers...

You're getting a 2 for 1 when going here, great food and beer all in one place! Also this place gets a +1 for convenience since it's located right across the street from Gunther's ice cream! Lunch/Dinner and then dessert all on the same street.
I got their burger since that's the thing to get here and a flight of beers because there's too many to try!
Burger: Excellent. The patty was flavorful, rich, and juicy and paired with the sauce was just an explosion of flavor. It was delicious burger, the only complaint was that I wish they toasted the patty longer so it would hold everything together.
Brews: When you order their flight, they have a system where they give you tokens so you can get your beer one a time. This way the beer stays fresh longer. I didn't mind it and it helped me remember what beer I was drinking.
Overall I'd definitely come back again for the...
