We all know South Sacramento has some of the most amazing & authentic Asian restaurants. I've been to my fair share of them over the years and have rarely been disappointed. Which takes me to a business that has withstood the test of time. This is none other than "Pho Xe Lua" Having been opened since 2007 with hundreds of fairly positive reviews, this place is located directly on Stockton Blvd. and just north of Fruitridge Rd.
Their menu is very extensive as they offer a mix of Chinese, Thai, & Vietnamese all under one roof. Sometimes this can be a turnoff as too many options may not necessarily be a good thing. Whether your appetite is craving Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Charbroiled dishes (with rice or noodles), Pho, Pad Thai, Teriyaki, or an extensive amount of beverages (coffee, lemonades, teas, shakes), this place definitely has it all. Since this place focuses mainly as Vietnamese, I chose this as my food of choice for lunch.
I was also drawn to this place because they are one of the participating restaurants on DoorDash. I don't use their app often as I enjoy picking up food myself at the actual restaurant (to meet the employees, management, etc.). However, what drew me here was their $2.99 delivery fee and only a 25-35 minute turnaround time to get my food. So I took my chances and thankfully it did indeed take only 30 minutes. My delivery driver brought my food at the front entrance to my office building, sealed in a plastic bag as the food was piping hot in the container.
The entree of choice that I ordered was one of their most popular, the #40 - "Com Chả Giò Tôm Thịt Nớng (Bò Hoặc Gà)". It was essentially a charbroiled pork dish complete with skewered shrimp, steamed rice, a veggie egg roll, & salad. It also came with a side of dressing, soy sauce, and chopsticks. The overall portion was quite generous. But words of advice ordering through DoorDash; the app charged $12.95 for this entree while the restaurants' website only charges $9.95 for this. After you factor in the price of the food + DoorDash fees + tip, I paid about $23 for everything. Just something everyone might want to think about if you're on a budget.
The food overall was very tasty as there were significant seasoned pieces of pork while the egg roll was a decent size. The rice was the heartiest amount of food as well as a substantial amount of salad. Overall, "Pho Xe Lua" was tasty and definitely above average. I enjoyed every bite and cleaned my plate. But I will have to make a future visit to truly enjoy the experience. My...

Well I seriously must have bad luck in Sacramento. I asked a local FB group page which Pho restaurant they could recommend and there was preference for 2 restaurant within driving distance of each other.
I chose this restaurant because they stayed opened later and I didn't want to be thw customer who ordered last minute.
I order online and unfortunately there wasn't an option to add extra onion and cilantro on their platform.
I ordered 1 extra large pho, 2 Thai teas, and shrimp pad Thai.
When I initially ordered their ordering platform mentioned it would be 35 to 50 minutes. I get a text 15 minutes later stating the order is ready.
I head out and walk into the restaurant. There is a lady at the register but she is helping a customer so I wait patiently and start bringing up my order info. I hear someone talking in my direction but when I look up nobody is there. I keep hearing noise and the lady at the register finally walks over to me even though she was still helping the other customer close out their bill. I gave her my info and proceeded to ask if there was any way I can get extra cilantro and onions. She immediately retorts that I will have to pay for it because it is very expensive. I chuckle because I think she is joking and I ask again and let her know I only need a little more since I ordered an extra large pho. She again tells me that she will have to charge me extra because prices have gone up and cilantro and onion is really expensive. I was shocked to say the least lol I decline and go about my way home.
I get home and look over my order. Everything looks decent. Nothing special. Very little cilantro and onion for an extra large pho...although I don't think they gave me an extra large because this has been the smallest portion of pho I have every received at any restaurant for any size pho I have ordered. The food is just ok. Luckily that FB group page has a few other suggestions that I will be...
Read moreThe service at this restaurant is terrible. Waiter lady decided to be my Dietitian one evening. I ordered what I normally would every time back then when I used to come to this restaurant.... the LARGE no. 1 combo beef pho. The waiter lady looked at me up and down and decided that a LARGE was too much food for me. Mind you.... I am a petite girl. She decided to order me a medium size pho instead and assured me that it was plenty for me -_- I doubted her but brainless me, decided to trust the waiter lady since I have not been to this restaurant in sooo long due to Covid(I have small children) and did not remember the sizing of their pho bowls. SO...... OF COURSE I LEFT THE PLACE WITH A GROWLING STOMACH! This visit was a little more then a year ago, since then I haven't set foot in there and plan not to in the future. There are MANY OF PHO RESTAURANTS who will not be judgemental when ordering your food.
Reply to owner: It's definitely the Pho Xe Lua across from Pho Saigon 🤣 if it wasn't the LARGE size then she must've brought a small!!! How wonderful.... if you read your customers review carefully and actually listen, you'd be able to understand that this review was a long...
