Oh boy. Where do I begin? This has been my favorite restaurant for years and years, owned by a Belgian chef (who never seems to recognize me, despite endless returns and me always saying hello) specializing in a small French menu that's reasonably priced and the food is has been amazing...until now. Despite not being broken, they decided to "fix it." They recently turned it into a lounge (with a name change??) despite there being another lounge right around the corner (Sips wine lounge), and removed almost every dinner table. They're pushing people to eat at the bar. I don't want to eat at the bar. If I'm spending this much on food I want to speak to my companions, face to face. They remodeled and took all the quirky elements away, from their Eiffel Tower to the art in the bathroom. Their servers used to be dressed nicely and now look like they are on a prison work release system. It's "seat yourself". The revamped the menu and took some notable items off, raised the prices and dropped the food quality. This is my biggest gripe. The main reason I come here is because the overwhelming majority of the food at restaurants is not worth the money because I am a chef and I can do better for far less. But this place has always been reliable and a great place to bring people who visit from out of town, friends, date night... And it stays open and serves food late. I guess that changed. Even the burger went up in price to over $22 and came with almost nothing on it. It's advertised to have bacon jam, pickled onions... All three of us had dry buns and two scant pieces of onion. Quality of meat was decent enough but it was generally flavorless... And I've ordered this plenty of times before, that was never the case. Gone are the decanters of water to refill our own...and not once were we offered a refill. I've gotten everything on the menu from the duck confit to bone marrow to the Burger American.... And I'm extremely disappointed. It seems like they're just pushing alcohol now. Additionally, it feels different and everyone is piled on top of each other. There are only regular three dinner tables left inside unless you want to sit outside which most people do not in Tampa Bay where our ambient temperature is 86-95 F. There are some tiny round tables on the other side if you want to sit on the lounge side where the majority of the tables used to be and hunch over like you're at a laptop to eat your food... But they won't fit more than a plate and a half on there.
I've been coming here since the bar was smaller and they keep renovating themselves into a bigger and bigger mistake. This is the type of place people keep coming back to...for the atmosphere, the food, the fact that they are open when other places are not in this particular small town, the option of later nights with food for those of us who are night owls. It's a true local hangout with an eclectic mix of Europeans, Brits, Americans, Canadians, etc, and we proudly bring all our friends and family coming through town. This place has always been busy, seven nights a week, well into late hours. Jovial, really great vibe, friendly...it was "Cheers" meeting the best of European flavor. Now they will stop serving food at 10:00 and there was barely anyone there on a Monday night.
I'm very disappointed and very sad. This is one of three reliable restaurants in the area that has always been amazing and counted on for fantastic food, service, strong drinks, and a great atmosphere. It's changed. The name changed, everything changed....and not for the better. They modernized into something bland and typical across the board. Expensive food, average service, pushing liquor, everything looks the same. You can get that anywhere.
I hope they go back to where they were and restore their magic. I don't think I will be returning if they remain as is, and that...
Read moreA nightmare experience. I felt obligated to share our dining experience as it was hands down the worst dining of our lives, and will NEVER return to this place. To start from the beginning, my fiance and I were staying in the Safety Harbor area, and we received high recommendations from both our Airbnb and our wedding photographer to dine at Parts of Paris. After looking up reservations on OpenTable, nothing was available. I decided to give the restaurant a call, and they were able to fit us in at 7 PM for a table for two. We arrived and were seated right away and ordered two espresso Martini's to start- which was excellent! So far, so good! Then, it took a turn for the worse....... My fiance ordered the French Onion Soup, which was literally charred black on top as the cheese was clearly burnt. We informed our waiter, and she went ahead and took it and told us they'd get another one—no apology at all, which took me by surprise. Not a huge deal. They brought us another soup, which came out perfect, and then we ordered our entrees. Our waiter asked if we wanted another round of drinks, and we told her we were fine. I ordered the burger & fries, and my fiance ordered a small filet with mashed potatoes. After nearly an hour after we ordered, the kitchen staff came out with our food. The food wasn't anything to write about and definitely not worth the $. Our server went utterly MIA after we ordered our food, and we were finished with our meal without having any service to our table. All of the other tables around us had a waiter come out 2-3 times during their meal. Keep in mind, we are in our 20's, and we honestly felt profiled by our waitress as a young couple who ordered cheap and probably won't tip much, especially after a bad soup. At this point, we've been at the restaurant for over two hours, and we just want to pay our check and get the heck out. I decided to take matters into my own hands and walk inside and ask for a manager. The person who I happened to ask appeared to be the owner/GM of the restaurant. The first thing I said to him was "We've had one of the worst fine dining experiences tonight." He replied and said, "no, I don't believe you" " I know what you're are doing." At this point, I'm speechless. He then crosses his arms and says, "what happened" I explained everything above, and the only thing he said to me "we don't check up on our guests after we serve food." Again, speechless. I proceeded to tell him that I just wanted my check so that we could get out of here. He responds and says, "no check," and walks away. Again, speechless. I've never been spoken to so rudely in my life, and this manager/owner seemed to think we were just there to get a free meal, and nothing is wrong with the service they provide, and he did not want to own up to any of their mistakes. I went back outside to our table with my fiance, hoping the waiter would come out to give us a check. I could see our waitress inside talking to the GM, and after 10 min of waiting, no one came, so we left. At the end of the day, it's their loss, and if they keep treating guests like us, they won't be in business...
Read moreAbsolutely incredible little gem hidden in Safety Harbor. There are so many wonderful small restaurants around here but this one finds a way to stand out! Parisian and French food is hard to come by in this area but Parts of Paris not only scratches this itch but does it in a exceptionally executed manner.
To start the food is incredible! Like absolutely stunning! The duck confit is to die for. Perfectly seasoned and crispy and cooked to perfection every time! It’s also served with an exceptionally balanced sweet citrus sauce that pairs so well with the richness of the protein. My absolute go to dish that makes this place the only restaurant on my mind when I want good duck. Beyond that the chefs simply do not miss. Every entree I’ve tried, from the rack of lamb to the regularly rotating fish special, has been well thought out and perfectly crafted.
As far an appetizers the escargot is a joy, the sauce is spot on with the richness and flavor to the point that I was inclined to scoop ever ylast drop out with the given bread crisps.
And the desert, oh the desert. It’s amazing. The crème brûlée was fabulously presented, which is half the battle with a good desert. It’s flavor was just the right mix of eggy and sweet, with subtle notes of rich vanilla. The small pieces of vanilla bean hidden in the crème also indicates that it is prepared from whole beans, which is always a plus. I went here for my birthday and they also gave me a free chocolate raspberry tart that was oh so decadent and rich! Served with crème and fresh berries it was easy to craft the perfect bite but it was certainly not for the faint of heart! It’s richness could be a short coming for those who do not adore chocolate as I do!
Beyond this the service and atmosphere is exceptional as well. The staff are always attentive and kind. Consistently tolerant of those who are confused and able to offer recommendations and explain menus items down to specific flavor notes. Shows that they typically really care about the food being put on the table. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting while still staying just a bit fancy. Makes you feel like you are tucked away in a small bistro in France or have been invited into someone’s home for a great meal with friends. Just one thing, be sure to dedicate time to your visit, the menu explicitly states that they make everything from scratch in what I can only assume is small kitchen. For me this is a positive as it gives you time to relax and enjoy the decor but for some this may be unexpected.
In short I absolutely recommend for the food, service and atmosphere. The prices are decent, and sometimes even great, for what you get and the quality of the cooking keeps me...
