China Flag Buffet — Restaurant in Saginaw

Not particularly impressed with our experience. Staff wasn’t outwardly rude, but we were greeted with an awkward “Ok” right upon entry, almost as if she didn’t want to get out of her seat. But maybe they’re just socially awkward. Food was edible, but none of it was hot or good enough to go back for seconds. Just kind of lukewarm, bland and definitely not fresh. Most of the meat was chewy and/or dry. Tried a little bit of everything and there’s no possible way any of the fried food was fried today. Definitely had a “day-old” texture. An item on the sushi bar (not exactly sure what it was, had something fried in it) tasted funky and metallic, the kind of taste that makes you stop chewing because you’re too nervous to continue. Dessert table offered a better experience but, again, nothing stood out. Best sweet option was probably either the canned peaches or powdered donuts. Grateful the waitress made sure our drinks were filled, but the tea didn’t exactly taste fresh either. Trying to justify spending $40 for two people on food neither of us enjoyed is proving to be difficult. Hard to ignore the disapproving look up and down from one of the female employees up front as my partner and I were walking out hand in hand, though. I don’t wanna make any assumptions by saying it felt homophobic when it might not have been, but it definitely didn’t go unnoticed by either me or my girlfriend. I've been here a few times over the years, its a typical buffet if you want to load up on some low priced junk food. However, i went today (may 6, 2021) and the food was not only cold and not well rotated, but we felt we were being rushed while they only had maybe 3 to 4 other tables. We were getting ready to get a second plate as they handed us the check and said "have a nice day", the real trouble was after we had signed the receipt. We always leave a tip and prefer to do it in cash when we can. We were prepared to leave a decent amount but the waitress came over and instructed us that "tips were not included" and we had to write an amount on the line, she then shoved the recipt back on the table and refused to take it until we wrote down a different amount. I tried to tell her that I was leaving cash but she was still adimin about leaving a tip on paper, she then stood in the corner near our table and scowled at us and rolled her eyes when we got up to try to get a dessert plate. There were children in our party who really wanted an ice cream cone so we got them one and after feeling like we were rushed we got up to leave and take the cones with us. This waitress came to the table, took our youngest ice cream cone that was on the table as he put on his mask and smashed it in the plate to take it away and then looked at the amounts on the recipt to see if we had left her anything before balling it up and throwing it on the ground. 🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨- on 08/26/2024 I took my myself and my grandson to go have lunch there. We got there when the doors open at 11AM. My bill was $16.76 ( that’s one adult buffet and a soda). The waitress brought me the bill, I took out CASH $20.76 for the cashier in the front. I turned around to assist my grandson and was waiting for my $4 change. The cashier says you only gave me .76 cents. I said no, I gave you $20 bill and change. She says no, this is all you gave me. I said no way, I know exactly what I gave you. I let her see my wallet and told her how much tip I gave the waitress and how much I gave her. I stretch over to look at the register to see if it fell in there. The waitress said “see you didn’t give me anything “. Mind you, I was the first customer there that day. I said no, please ask your manager to come here and review your surveillance camera. I know I gave you that money. She says ok let me call my manager, my manager didn’t pick up but here’s your $4 cash back, it’s ok you can go. EXCUSE ME!! So, you’re going to give me a FREE MEAL AND $4 back??!!! Come on now. @China Flag Buffet you need to do better with your staff. I wasn’t born yesterday.
