St Charles continues to add tasty value to its expanding list of cafes. Upshot Cafe is a an oasis of flavor nestled in a residential district, providing a unique walk-able destination in the neighborhood near Lindenwood University. A former auto shop turned chic edifice provides a calm place to enjoy your favorite type of joe. I arrived mid morning and witnessed a rush crowd comprised of a wide range of college students, young families and the occasional older food adventurist, walk in and quickly run through a thoughtful menu. Wearing a mask doesnt keep the staff from sharing their joy and passion as they serve the customers. It's great to see their attention to service. Be sure to try their BEC - bacon egg & cheese… I’ve never been a fan of biscuits, I have found them to be devoid of flavor and reliant on a topping to make them tolerable, historically. However; their biscuit which serves as the foundation for a fluffy, perfectly folded egg duo under its own blanket of cheese, has completely reshaped my perceptions. Let me go on… this biscuit is airy almost, delicate yet it rises to the task of supporting the flavor-filled weight above. It will forever serve as the standard for judging all future biscuits. The ownership also founded Beets & Bones in Clayton and provides many of the tasty treats from that kitchen in their refrigerators including, soup stock for your own culinary attempts. Upshot! I'll be seeing you...
Read moreAs an employer for anyone seeking employment here let it be known that this employer has no respect with regard to applicants in college. I applied for a position here as a Barista with prior experience. Was given a phone interview with Eric while I was traveling in that state of GA during the Hurricane Helene, already experiencing no cell phone service or WiFi the Tuesday before the hurricane. I went out of my way to find make sure I could find a spot cell service to take this phone call interview. After setting up a date of an in person interview knowing I was in the mist of the hurricane scheduled a week after my return home on the 11th of October. My arrival home was to be this first Monday of October. We had issues people fighting for gas and rationing fuel on our drive home with powerlines and trees down and so forth… cause I was worried of being home for this interview as a 23 year old college student I need this job. Although it only pays $11 an hour which is part-time & full-time which is below minimum wage in the state of Missouri… employer contacted me today this morning telling me this positions are even filled, knowing I had an interview set up situation I said trying to get trying to get home. Very unprofessional. 👎🏻👎🏻 I also turned out other opportunities for this it was near my school and my...
Read moreWe enjoyed our visit here. I ordered the cappuccino special with honey cinnamon. I liked it, but I wasn’t blown away. My husband ordered the Witch’s Brew special with mocha and caramel, but it didn’t really taste like anything other than a latte. So it wasn’t bad, we like a plain latte, but not really what we were expecting. So not our favorite local coffee we’ve had but still good.
The cinnamon roll and breakfast sandwich I really liked! Both were warm and the biscuits on the sandwich were delicious. Our only other complaint was that the bar we sat at was pretty sticky and needed to be wiped down. It wasn’t super busy when we were there so just wished it would have been a little cleaner. The shop would be the perfect spot to come back and hang out for a couple hours. It had a great vibe.
There’s hardly any parking, so expect to park on the street. Not a huge deal for us, and it wasn’t hard to find a spot a...
