Overall it's a solid sushi joint. I've been to a lot all over the US and it's not one I would make a point to go back to, but I am glad I went.
It's pretty small inside and the environment isn't the best. Feels more like a fast food joint than a sushi restaurant. And for sushi, the vibe is everything in my opinion. And the chairs were super uncomfortable!
The poor waiter needs some help! I swear he was the only waiter here that night! He had long hair and a pony in the back. He looked so stressed and flustered. He was friendly but definitely didn't feel like I should stop him to ask questions.
The sake wasn't explained to me well. I didn't like the one I got unfortunately. The waiter didn't know anything about them, which isn't really his fault. Just appreciate a staff that can tell me what's good. ALSO! They have like 20 sake items on the menu, and when I asked it came out that they only have like 5 of those. And only one of them came in a glass where I would have to pay for the entire bottle on the others! What?! That was a little aggravating. I can't stand when stuff is on the menu but not available, especially in that large quantity.
The Food:
The Summer roll (fruit roll) was meh wouldn't recommend. The mango roll was actually pretty good I would order it again actually but not as amazing as other sushi joints. The edamame was good! I didn't get a chance to try the miso
Oh final note 😂 They have these menus and I think they were supposed to customize the cover with their name. But uh .. it just says Menu Cover.
They do have super expensive rolls, but I would be worried that they definitely aren't worth it since the simple rolls...
Read moreDo not misunderstand my 4 star rating. The food here surpasses 5 star. Like all other restaurants right now, Sushi boat is struggling with servers. The service was a little slow, but I was there when they were at capacity. There were no tables left to sit at for dinner. Servers and owner are very friendly when they have time to stop and chat. If you go during dinner, expect to possibly wait.
If you are looking for fresh sushi or sashimi, this place is by far the best I have tried in St Louis since my favorite placed closed. I absolutely recommend them for the freshness, variety, and uniqueness of the menu. Prepare yourself as the menu is very large. I had a chef's special of the week roll and the King roll with white sturgeon caviar and gold leaf. It was an amazing experience. Please try this establishment if you love sushi. They also have other options that are just as delicious for those who don't eat sushi too (per my mother who eats here regularly).
Regrettably I only took one picture. I need to get...
Read moreWe ordered the Maki (C), which was a good deal compared to ordering them individually. While it didn't quite meet my expectations, mainly because I had anticipated cubed fish rather than minced, it was still enjoyable. I did notice that some of the yellowtail scallion rolls weren't fully wrapped with seaweed, leaving the rice exposed. The Cardinals Roll stood out as each roll was garnished with a thin slice of ribeye, and I definitely recommend trying it. The presentation was nice, especially with the delicately drizzled sushi sauces. However, the rolls were a bit too soft, causing them to fall apart easily. Despite this, the sushi tasted fresh overall. During my visit, there was also an incident that occurred. Due to the air conditioner being broken, there was an oscillating fan in the dining area. When the waitress was cleaning up another table and walked past ours, some of the trash she had picked up blew onto our table...
