Had dinner there to celebrate my son's "Gotcha" day (adopted in Dec). Firstly, no parking. Only valet which in previous review was noted and owner stated it was free. Well, it maybe free but you need to tip. If you want to self park, you have to park way away from restaurant and I was told a golf cart would come get us. Well, no signs indicate this and how do I summon the golf cart?

Next, enter the restaurant and go to hostess station. Greeted by very friendly staff and they wished my son a happy Gotcha day. I was then told I had to go back out of the restaurant and go to another hostess station as my reservations was for the outside patio. OK..... But it was annoying, after I was already annoyed by the parking.

I go to the other Hostess station, friendly interaction. She escorts us to a a high top table. The patio is very sparse with people. I ask for a different table as my son is young and can fall from that chair. I point to a lower table and asked to sit there. I was told it was reserved. Nobody sat in that table until the very end of our very long meal... And the table we were sat at was next to the bins they threw everyone's used dishes in. On top of my chair getting banged into every time busser went to throw dishes into bins, I had to hear the clanging of dishes and once I moved chairs I then got to look at the bins of used dishes. Totally disgusting. He should have a cart or have the bins elsewhere not in view of diners.

Took quite some time for waitress to come over to the table and get drink orders. Like 10 - 15mins. And, the patio was not very busy. I ordered a pina colada. She came back to table and said they didn't have ingredients. Very disappointing as it was a hot day and I really wanted one. Settled for rum runner, it was good, could definitely taste the alcohol.

We then proceeded to order food. I wanted raw oysters. Didn't have them. Again, disappointed cause I really wanted them. Was offered oyster Rockefeller and I asked then why don't you have raw oysters. Was told that raw oysters are held at different holding/handling time. I ordered this as an appetizer, it came out with my meal. They were ok.

My daughter ordered the California roll off the kids menu. It came out before any of our food did. It was her main so I was upset she would now have to sit and wait for us to get our meals and finish. Ended up ordering her a child's burger as the one sushi roll wasn't enough for her. It came out with crud all over the bottom of it. See pic.

And Wait we did. Took like 45 mins to get meal. And like I said, was not that busy. I had the chef's special which was lobster linguine. Sauce was good but chef used claws which are chewy even if cooked properly. But they were over cooked and not edible. And the linguine was undercooked. My husband had the new york and fries. That was cooked correctly. My only complaint was 52 dollars seems very high for NY steak and fries. No salad either or bread.

The waitress summoned the manager over after I sent my meal back. She didn't come until requested a second time for my daughter's burger. She offered to take off bill and apologized. I decided to get sushi roll (cause it comes out fast) and it was good.

Decided on ordering desert, they only had 3 desserts. Key lime pie, bread pudding, and a chocolate cherry torte. None of which would appeal to my 7 yr old son. I ordered pudding and my daughter ordered the torte. The bread pudding is none like I have ever seen before, it was in a cake form, very stodgy. My husband ended up eating that, and my daughter ate some of the chocolate torte - it was dark chocolate and was huge portion.

Went to the bathroom, it was an attempted re-model. Loved the marble but it is one of the worst dry wall jobs I have ever seen. Hope they didn't pay that contractor.....

Overall, big I don't know if we would return. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I know it is a relatively new restaurant so hopefully they will work...

My husband and I had reservations for our anniversary. We waited about 15mins before we were sat, right next to the dance floor, so much for a romantic evening out. We laughed it off not being able to carry a conversation with the strobe lights and kids carrying on jumping around on the dance floor, the music was also very loud. Okay no problem we got not so great seats, that’s fine. We waited 20 mins for water and bread but didn’t have plates to eat the bread off of and no drink menu. The flies were also really bad, landing on our table, in our bread and flying around our head, it was not the vibe. The drink menu finally came, my husband ordered a beer and I ordered a dirty martini with blue cheese olives and was surprised when I received my drink and it was regular olives and no sidecar. The menu said a sidecar would come with my $18 martini, 6oz martini. I inquired with the waitress and she seemed very upset that I asked about it, supposedly they are no longer serving a sidecar with their martinis and they were out of the blue cheese olives. How was I supposed to know unless I inquired but apparently struck a nerve. The waitress did address this by bringing me two additional martinis but they were hella strong, like I had to sip sip sip that martini and I didn’t touch the third one, the first one was made appropriately, the other two were just way to strong and quite frankly gross, For an appetizer we order a fried sushi roll, which tasted BURNT. My husband ordered a side Caesar salad which is very large in portion so that was nice. I ordered the clam chowder which was very good. For our main entree we ordered street corn to share and we each ordered the ribeye with potatoes. Our steaks were cold, the potatoes nice and hot and the corn was hot, but the meat was cold. My husband ate his ribeye which was full of grit but I had one bite and was done, I’m not eating cold meat. The manager saw that we were not pleased and approached our table. I asked her for a box and explained Im so sorry but I just could not eat cold meat, completely turned off by the meal, she was very kind and understanding and boxed it up and comped my meal. I really appreciate she did that. The best part about our visit was leaving, the valet was very nice and actually seemed like they cared. I’m so disappointed because we were so excited to finally try this place. We are locals and our experience was very underwhelming in my opinion and quite frankly I’m not hard to please. My advice to the owners would be to hire more staff, I would assume based on our experience you are extremely under staffed (or this particular Saturday). Servers would make more money if they could accommodate the table appropriately. Our waitress wasn’t exactly friendly but we could tell she was being run around the entire restaurant trying to keep things together for not just her tables but it appeared she was picking up the slack on other tables, not sure I would be in the greatest mood either. (Maybe she needs a raise) The people who run your restaurant are your MOST important asset. When their vibes are off the entire restaurants vibes will be off. Happy staff = happy customers. We must have just come on an off day, the parking lot is always full and you guys always seem to be busy. We may try again in the future and I’d be happy to revise this review when...

Welcome to the delicious world of Hook, where lakeside dining meets steakhouse elegance in St. Clair Shores, Michigan! Prepare to embark on a culinary voyage that will leave you hooked…all puns intended. As a food & lifestyle blogger, restaurant connoisseur, and food enthusiast, I am thrilled to share my review of this brand-new dining gem.

From the moment we stepped foot onto the dockside patio overlooking the magnificent Lake St. Clair, we were reminded of seaside oasis with a splash of lakelife charm. The atmosphere effortlessly blended the beauty of the lake with the sophistication of a steakhouse. It was a delightful mix of open-air freedom and covered elegance, making it an ideal spot for any occasion.

Let’s dive into the menu that Hook has to offer. With options that encompass both land and sea, as well as a tantalizing sushi selection, there is truly something for every discerning palate. This being our first visit, we decided to explore a little of all the wonders that awaited us.

Right off the bat, we were greeted by expedient and friendly service that set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Our server, Allie, was an absolute gem, making us feel like honored guests from the moment we sat down. She took the time to chat about what has been recently popular on the menu.

For our appetizer, we couldn't resist trying the Smoked Trout Dip served with grilled baguette bread. The dip was a symphony of flavors, expertly balanced to ensure that the smokiness didn't overpower the delicate trout. Each bite was a journey of indulgence, perfectly complemented by the warm and crispy baguette.

Here’s the entrée that stole our hearts—the Ora King Salmon, a dish that showcased the salmon's natural beauty with a tangy lemon salsa and a drizzle of basil oil. The salmon was perfectly tender and flaked in your mouth. Accompanying this culinary masterpiece was a sautéed vegetable medley that was cooked to perfection.

We also embarked on a sushi adventure and ordered the SS Hook roll. This delectable creation featured a medley of flavors, with lobster tempura, refreshing cucumber, and creamy avocado, all topped with a tantalizing torch of crab mix, eel sauce, spicy mayo, and a sprinkle of black tobiko. What impressed us most was the generous amount of lobster meat (tail included); they certainly didn't skimp on the star ingredient. Let's not forget about their house soy sauce, the perfect accompaniment that elevated the sushi experience to new heights.

In addition to the remarkable food, we were pleasantly surprised when the owner took the time to personally visit our table and introduce himself. It's evident that he deeply cares about hospitality and ensuring that each guest has an extraordinary dining experience. Such attention to detail and genuine warmth truly sets Hook apart from most establishments.

We are already planning our next visit to Hook. The enticing menu, impeccable service, and the enchanting lakeside ambiance are chart-topping. Whether it's a romantic dinner, a gathering with friends, or a special occasion, Hook promises to deliver an unforgettable dining experience that will keep you coming back for more.

Chart your course to Hook and get ready to be swept away by a dining adventure that will leave you craving for more....

NEW! We just experienced the "Chefs Table" with another couple and what a fun night we all had. Upon arrival, a chef visited us and said he would be making us an appetizer - which this night was a small beautiful sushi plate and a crusty fresh loaf of bread was provided. After a round of drinks, we then ordered fresh shucked oysters and a shrimp cocktail - all great and nice presentation for both! Without anyone rushing us - we fully enjoyed the appetizers & relaxed a bit before deciding on our meal. I had to order the Ribeye after seeing their locker of aging meat and as I took the 1st bite, head Chef watched me waiting for the thumb's up which she received! Also ordered among the group were pastas (one with squid noodles) which came with seared shrimp and scallops. Everyone was extremely impressed with the food quality and size of the meals. Having quite the good time - and with the chef's coming over to chat and introduce themselves, we decided to have coffee drinks and try the key lime cheesecake which was a perfect ending to a wonderful night. MAKE A RESERVATION and try this out with some friends! Good interactive experience. Great overall ambience - good music playing in the background - nice bar to sit at as well as dining area for singles or date night! Visited Hook by boat late afternoon & enjoyed a great "experience" for a few hours. EASY dockage along the seawall - and we noticed when things started picking up there are dock hands there to help as well. We sat outside on the patio along the water to watch the busy boat activity, however, there are also 3 unique bar areas as well as a beautiful "fine dining" inside space. Since we weren't in a rush, we tried a variety of offerings. Started with drinks and fresh oysters. Nice oyster presentation as it was smoking with some dry ice as it approached the table! The two of us then shared the South Beach Salad - tasted as good as it looked - dressing a bit heavy (but I like a dry salad) so if you like a drier salad you may want to ask for that - the dressing was delicious though and we did eat it all! Once dinner time arrived, we asked our waiter if for our 3rd course of tasting, we could see the inside "dinner" menu (I happened to see a table served with lamb chops - making an early decision to order that my next visit!). Our server mentioned when super busy they don't do dinner menu outside, however, seemed like a pretty laid back night so they were happy to accommodate us. We were actually pretty full at that point so we ordered the Anchor Sushi Roll for the final entre - another excellent choice! We noticed all the servers were really friendly and pleasant to the guests. Our server Justin did a great job - never had an empty glass or plate in front of us for long! Looking forward to coming back and sitting inside at the Chef's Bar!

We must have just come on an off day, the parking lot is always full and you guys always seem to be busy. We may try again in the future and I’d be happy to revise this review when that time comes.
