I went to Waves on Friday evening, July 7, for an alone meal with my wife. We entered around 4:45, and although the place was getting busy, it was by now means packed. The musical din was a bit loud, and made the better behind the podium a bit hard to hear; but maybe he was just soft spoken. The first boy was on the phone, the house phone, but a second load appeared quite quickly and seated us to the right, in a booth, on the north wall. My wife viewed the windows overlooking Jefferson, and I was in line with the bar to my left, and the two colorful, and seemingly well asked bartenders; colorful as noted by at least one of their well tattooed arms. As we were seated, although there were 4-5 large screen TVs in my view, I enjoyed Jimmy Buffett playing Boat Drinks, on the sound system. To the left of the door looked to be a dining area away from the TV's and the bar. I may it for the seemingly quieter side next time. However, if I chose that side, I wouldn't have been privy to our wonderful server, Kelsey. Kelsey was quickly at our side job our seating, to welcome us, introduce herself, and take it drink orders. We did not order alcohol this evening, do I cannot comment further on the bar, except for the fact that I'm the few random conversations I heard from that area, not once did I hear any foul or unpleasant language. Kelsey returned quickly with our drinks, then, upon our request, have us a couple more minutes to peruse the menu. The options were varied and quite numerous, and although you could not find a 4x4 breakfast for $2.99, another time, the prices were not unreasonable. Kelsey returned after a only a couple of minutes, and my wife ordered the Cobb salad, whereas I opted for the Seafood Paella. Kelsey left with the menus, leaving the alone parents of four, some time to share their thoughts. Although I have mentioned the din about us, we had no trouble conversing not hearing either speak. I just enjoy a quieter atmosphere; that's me. Kelsey soon brought out the bread basket, and my soup of the day, which came with the entree, Crab bisque. I did have a choice between this, a different soup I can't recall, or a salad. The buster is the only thing I remembered to snap a picture of. It was delightful. It was hot, creamy, held together wonderfully, had plenty of crab, and very tasty. Give stars on the bisque alone. Complements to the chef. The bread was also notable. The were warm rolls which held consistency, yet you're easily. They had a crusty, but not a tough one. They also had seasoning, but not an overpowering flavor. Quite good. Only a couple minutes after u had finished my bisque, or entrees were brought out by Kelsey. Both dishes were very well presented. Again I apologize for not taking a picture of them. The paella has two full crab legs, a half dozen shrimp or more, and about a half dozen muscles, in shell. This came with crab rolls, which included a nut cracker, and a relish tray fork. Both quite useable tools. Although, notable here, there were no picks for the narrow channels of the leg and claw. If the fork were a bit more narrow, the picks may not have been necessary, but I think the picks need to be added to this set. Even upon request, Kelsey could only come up with the suggestion of a skewer, to push through. I declined, and said if make this work; which I did. Both entrees were very delicious and satisfying too their respective palates, and Kelsey came by a few times to refill our drinks, and check on our progress. She even brought it a dessert menu, but neither of us saved room. With our meals, and my ice tea, or total will was $43, my Seafood Paella casting the bulk of the weight at $24. For the great service, beautiful presentation, and Delicious food, I do not think we overpaid. I will definitely go back to Waves to try their other offerings; but next time maybe to the left...
Read moreSo we are visiting family for the first time since covid, from out of state. My grandmother was raving about this place, especially their coconut shrimp. She was right. My wife and I love to cook. We frequently go out to eat, but end up disappointed a lot of the time, because we can cook better food than a good chunk of moderately priced restaurants, and pretty much any chain restaurant, though that's not a high bar. But everything I tasted there was the best version of that food, that I have ever had. The fried calamari appetizer was amazingly tender, and flavorful. The tomatoes with it were intense in their flavor, and absolutely delicious. My wife got the coconut shrimp with plum sauce. They were cooked and coated to perfection. There was nothing that could have improved. Not to mention the new England clam chowder had the softest, and not at all fishy clams of my life. With a savory creamy taste, and not overloaded with cheap potatoes. It's how clam chowder should be made. Oh, and the seafood Alfredo. The shrimp are huge, and again, cooked to perfection. And it comes out with a half a section of snow crab legs on top. No canned crab or preshelled frozen junk here. The sauce was perfectly salted, and satisfyingly creamy and decadent. Add in the fresh crab and a bite of shrimp, and I was in foodie heaven. I've never seen a restaurant nail shrimp so perfectly. And, from my grandmother's experience at least, always consistently too. So yeah. Definitely check this place out. They also have some amazing fish, and salads. My brother's wife is pesco-vegetarian, and both are doing keto, and she was extremely satisfied with the coconut shrimp. The amount of non coconut breading was minimal enough to work fine for her. And even if it didn't, she said it would be 100% worth it lol. The only negative was the tuna. And that's more of a personal taste thing, as it does not come with any sauce. So if you just want a seasoned seared tuna steak, without any sauce, it was beautiful. My cousin asked for some soy sauce or something that they had, and said it was delicious with that. Everyone left happy. And the prices are moderate too. I would have paid 25% more for food of that...
