A friend and I stopped in for breakfast after a doctor appointment. The restaurant was over half full, we were seated right away and our drink order was taken. They have a vast menu with lots of choices. I chose the french toast with a side of bacon, our waitress gave me several options to customize my french toast, I opted to limit it to topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon, butter and syrup. My friends chose the Copper Penny Omelet, filled with sausage, sausage gravy, hash browns, and cheddar and montery jack cheese. The omelet was supposed to come with biscuits and honey, but they were out of biscuits so my friend opted instead for sourdough toast. Our food arrived promptly, very hot and fresh. My plate had 6 triangles of thick cut french toast with a generous sprinkle of both powdered sugar and cinnamon, and a nice mound of butter melting over the hot toast, warm syrup in a decanter was served with it. My friends Copper Penny Omelet was huge! It had to be at lease3-4 eggs large and the stuffings and cheese both inside and out were plentiful. I can't recall the last time I saw such a hearty omelet. I sampled a bite and it was delicious! We were very happy with our food. The other thing we were very happy with was the service. Our waitress, as well as the other waitresses were just wonderful! They were very personable and very attentive. My coffee cup was always filled without having to ask. My friends water glass was filled as well. We both had plenty of leftovers and our waitress brought take out boxes for us and filled them with our leftovers. Seeing that I was handicapped and used a walker, she kindly put mine in a plastic bag so that it would be easier for me to carry out my leftovers, in fact she even offered to walk my leftovers out to the car for me! I wish I had got her name, but I will get it next time I go there. Needless to say I tipped her well. Also, when paying for the meal, we had a nice chat with the owner. He was very friendly and when he asked how things were, he was very interested in what we had to say. Wh ef n we complimented the great service, he told us how he has had the same servers for years. That tells me as a manager he must treat them well and that there is a lot of mutual respect going on, something rarely seen these days whereas most restaurants are begging for help wanted, this manager has fostered an atmosphere of loyalty. Because of the good food, good prices and the EXCELLENT service, I highly recommend The Copper Penny. I truly cannot wait to...
Read moreSo I would like to start this off by saying that my boyfriend and I always love coming here. We try to come on Sunday mornings when we can. I usually order the same Belgian Waffle while my boyfriend like to hop around and try different things.
Today's experience, however, was something DIFFERENT. To start our waitress was an older lady. She is tall and has blonde hair in a bun, and she wears glasses. I wish I had gotten the name. When asked about the soft drinks option (coke or pepsi), she hesitated before answering as if she didn't know or had forgotten. Note: we went around their usual busy time around 10 am, and if you have a steady flow of customers, you would expect that knowledge to come almost immediately. She gave us a bit of time to get our order set, which leads me into my next point.
When I ordered my usual, I had to repeat my order twice for her to hear. It doesn't normally get that lound in the side area where we were sat. Also, as I had ordered, as I was taught, I make it a point to actually point to what I am ordering on the menu. She took my boyfriend's order with no issue. However, when the food was finally delivered to us, please note my surprise when I was given pancakes instead of the waffles. The two don't even sound similar. The issue was fixed by one of the regular waitresses on staff.
Also just a bit of extra info. The table behind us that was in the far corner hadn't gotten their bill. The waitress came by them to say "it had been lost". We overheard another waitress talking, the same one who corrected the previous mistake, and figured out that our waitress had cashed someone out for the wrong thing. Plus, she seemed to more avoid her tables than cater to them. My boyfriend had his coffee refilled by other staff three times. I barely was able to get a refill on my soda. All around it just seemed like our waitress was...
Read moreAfter making a trip yesterday to Great Lakes Ace Hardware a few miles up the road, I thought that we should also try a new restaurant in the area. After Googling locally owned restaurants, I decided we would check out this place.
The first thing we noticed as we pulled in was there was plenty of parking that was clean and well maintained. A big plus because a lot of locally owned restaurants in the 5 mile radius has small parking lots.
The restaurant was clean and orderly. I got a kick out of the decor which I thought looked modern with a slight retro twist. No TVs in sight that I could see which I thought was a huge plus. :)
The staff was friendly and attentive. Minimal wait with our drinks and our order taken. Our food was served hot, delicious and exactly what we ordered. :D
Hubby was very pleased about the staff making timely rounds to top off his cup of coffee. :)
My one tiny itty bitty complaint was the glass of water that I had with my meal. It was served warm with very minimal ice. No biggie, I will just ask for more ice next time. :)
We definitely were not disappointed in the slightest from the time we pulled in the parking lot to the time we left the restaurant.
We will definitely...
