I am just dropping this from 5 to 3 stars now (should have reviewed them back over a month ago). The staff is incredibly nice, the manager is great, and food is amazing, all of which combined is why they are even getting 3. However, the owner is useless, and if it wasn't for the previous 3, this place would be closed. My fiance and I wanted them to do our wedding, and I convinced her to drop 4-Rivers because this was the first place we ate at in St. Cloud while house shopping. We schedule to meet with the owner for a tasting, he is a no call, no show. I had to tell the manager to call him 20 minutes after our appointment. He claimed he was tied up at his other business (still could have call/emailed me/his staff to let us/them know that). Manager was great, she did our tasting with us. Over an hour goes by, still never showed up. We left and said to have him call us back THAT night (Friday)...never called us back...at all! I had to call him Tuesday or Wednesday. Finally gave us the quote for the wedding a couple days later about (after being told that he was SO MUCH cheaper than 4-Rivers that "you could give me a huge tip and we would still cost less!") Well, they aren't... actually, I believe they were a tiny bit more expensive. I know $2200ish bucks may not be important or a lot to this guy, but it is to me, and I should have been given the respect a $300 or $10,000 client should receive. I have never felt so disrespected and unimportant by a business owner in my life and may never return to the restaurant again despite it's other great qualities. PS, went to Mission BBQ, $1700ish including things JB's didn't include and was treated amazingly well, like...
Read moreJimmy Bears was clean. And the service was perfect. I love the idea of the comedy club! This is a really neat place. And I don't think our food experience is indicative of Jimmy Bears. But with a 4.7 rating, we expected some mind blowing bbq.
All food was hot and correct!
First, We ordered a basket of fried green tomatoes. Flavor was great but they contained quite a bit of raw batter.
My husband's meal was the 3 blind mice(?) and fries. He liked the housemade fries, I did not. But he found the sandwich to be too greasy, even for a sandwich filled with cheese.
The kids liked their meals a lot. One had pulled pork and fries, the other a grilled cheese and fries.
I had sliced brisket, collard greens and smoked Mac. My collard greens tasted unseasoned and like they had been dumped from a can. I don't mind canned collards as long as they're flavorful. The smoked Mac tastes like premade boxed mac you find in the freezer section with a weird aftertaste. Im guessing its the smoked part, but the best way I can describe the taste is 'bandaids'. Not one person in my family could eat it. My sliced brisket was so dry and bland and....gray, I had no choice but to try a BBQ sauce. I dont usually like bbq sauce but sometimes I find one I really like. I didn't like any of the 3 choices of sauces offered so I asked my server for a hot sauce. She brought me two. The howlin jalapeno hot sauce was the absolute best thing about my meal. It was so good. The habenero sauce...
Read moreI love Barbecue, but this place is tucked away in the corner of a large, busy shopping center, and I just never noticed it before. Now that I have found it, I'll be a regular customer.
The food here was first-rate! I had the sliced brisket sandwich, which came with the meat off the bun. I didn't bother to make a sandwich out if it, and just ate the meat slathered with their own sauces. They have a regular sauce, a spicy (my favorite), and a mustard (also very good). The brisket was juicy and tender, and among the best brisket I've ever had anywhere. It was about as perfect as BBQ gets.
The fries were fresh cut and deep fried, what we used to call Boardwalk fries. Those are my favorite kind of fries, and to be able to eat them with perfect BBQ is a real treat, and puts Jimmy Bears ahead of any other place I know.
The baked beans were equally delicious, with only beans and a generous amount of meat in them. No onions, peppers or other additions that some places add to ruin the baked bean experience.
Even the unsweetened ice tea was perfect.
Really, I can't think of anything that would have made this meal better. There's another BBQ place in town that I also love, but now that I've discovered Jimmy Bear's, I have a dilemma. Ill be coming to Jimmy Bears for the next few BBQ dinners, or at least until I've tried some of their other offerings like pulled pork and ribs. They even have beef ribs that I'll have to try out.
Highly...
