**Read it before choosing this place”” We went to Genki today around 12:40pm excited to eat some ramen. I ordered the Black Garlic Bomb ramen, as my husband comes here sometimes with his colleagues and always gets this flavor. Naturally, I was expecting the ramen to have some garlic flavor to it. However, it didn’t taste like there was any of the garlic flavor at all this time. My husband tried it and he agreed that it didn’t have any garlic flavor and tasted very different from the same ramen he had ordered a month ago.
We then asked the waiter about it. The waiter said he’d go check with the chef. A few minutes later, he brought a bit of garlic oil to us, and didn’t say anything other than a stop by to see if the ramen was better. We told him it was better.
When it came time to pay our check, we noticed that they had charged us extra for the garlic oil. At no point did the waiter tell us that the restaurant would charge extra to fix the food. Confused, I asked the server. At that point he told us that, in fact, the bowl did have garlic oil in it, but it was at the bottom of the bowl and I just needed to mix it. Ok… Even if that was true, why didn’t he tell us that when we first asked about it, instead of charging us extra without informing us? Also, oil always floats to the top. It wouldn’t be at the bottom, so we thought that was a weird assertion.
Looking at the first picture below — like the garlic ramen we got today. And the second picture— what the black garlic ramen looks like normally there. Anyone can tell the difference.
This is not about the money. What frustrates us the most is that the waiter did not try to remedy the situation. Did not care how the customers feel about their product, and just stubbornly insisted that the customers tasted the soup wrong as of like he was the one cooked it and tasted it. Then he charged us extra without our permission. Why should I have to pay extra for their mistake in not informing me of that earlier?
As the waiter continuously argued with us, we paid the extra in the end to stop wasting our time. Growing up in East Asia, and lived in Japan for many years. I always like to show my support to Asian restaurants/ stores. But honestly, the quality of the ramen here is not very good. We will not be going to Genki Ramen again. And will definitely not recommend to any of our friends and colleagues anymore. This was the worst and the most ridiculous service that we’ve...
Read moreReviews sounded okay, popped in yesterday to check it out...owner was there. Nice cordial and even gave me a nice Japanese wall calender. My wife and I just got home from eating at the restaurant and I'm glad I didn't live farther away because my stomach was not liking to the food. When we arrived we were the only customers there, he sat us and walked away to finish setting up the tables in the restaurant..a few minutes later after glancing at him a few times he walked over and I asked for menus...he then said "are you in a hurry and if so he would put my order in first"? First of all he could have given us menus to look at while he was setting tables and we were the only people in the restaurant so why would he say he would put our order in first? We ordered wontons that were OK. My wife ordered one of the ramen dishes and I ordered Udon Soup with shrimp..her ramen came out almost too fast and then he brought me three of the tiniest shrimp ever seen in a restaurant and then about 5 minutes later my soup arrived. Absolutely nothing in the bowl except noodles and broth, nothing else except three baby shrimp. Bottom line is that most of the reviews say good things..not true unless you've never been to a good Ramen house...I rate it a 3 or...
Read moreTLDR: come here. Eat amazing food. If you haven't traveled much, it is hard to put into words some of the amazing food you can find from other countries. This is especially true with Japanese cuisine. And, in my experience, traditional Japanese Ramen houses and restaurants are diamonds in the rough. This restaurant is exactly such a diamond. The menu is Japanese Ramen and Udon soup, and traditional lunch and dinner plates only. And if you have never eaten traditional Japanese food, this is the place in St George to enjoy it. The broth is amazing and the noodles are excellent. Every part of the meal experience was superb, with great service. I have been to many, many Japanese places, and this one takes the cake over all of them. Now, they don't do sushi, for all you folks that think Japanese cuisine has to have sushi. Most traditional Japanese foods are meat and vegetables, noodles and rice, cooked at a gourmet level, with a lot of attention to detail. The owner told me that they make all their own broths from scratch. The flavor and preparation of their food here is amazing and I think everyone should come eat here, if for no other reason than to find out what really high-end Japanese Ramen is like. This is my new favorite...
