Worst Wok on the Park (WITP) experience. Restaurant management showed intolerable lack of customer support and service. I placed a to-go order using their WITP menu (via Yelp) and per the restaurant specifications noted on Yelp, called the order in. Although, to my shock and disappointment, when picking up the order and paying, their restaurant management refused to honor the order's pricing, even after I showed them exactly what appears for WITP online in black and white. Seems as with any business, WITP has a responsibility and to its customers, to be sure any menu, location, hours, pricing, etc., any and all information posted about it, is correct or get it corrected, right? Here, WITP must have made sure take-out orders were phoned per this posting, right? As an innocent customer, if a business chooses to ignore what's being posted about it and not take any responsibility and control, they face the risk of that choice and consequences - in this case having to honor the pricing they surely knew, or should have known, was being posted and promoted on a major restaurant site. Ethically, it's quite simple, WITP do the right thing. Either make sure what's published for your business is current and accurate or honor what you allow posted and promoted online. Don't wait until an unsuspecting customer arrives and then demand them to pay 2X the price posted, why? what did the customer do wrong?, nothing, this was all caused because WITP didn't manage its posted menu and pricing. I'm done, and after being a loyal customer pretty much from day one. WITP take-out customers and any customers using YELP be warned. WITP surely knows about this and continues to allow/enable incorrect information and then do nothing, including the consequences of honoring what the customer sees. Incidentally, WITP, your neighborhood's dining options are getting pretty competitive, and no other alternative restaurant allows or has such a discrepancy. Makes one wonder: Is allowing false advertising, a...
Read moreMy partner and I was looking for some good Asian food in the neighborhood and came across this place with 1.6k reviews and averaged 4.6 stars. With so many good reviews, we checked it out. Unfortunately, it was a very Americanized version of Asian food which was not what we were looking for.
We ordered the lunch combo. I got the egg roll, with egg drop soup and entree of Subgum chow mein. The egg roll was very heavily seasoned with black pepper (1.5/5), the egg drop soup was very sweet for some reason and had clumps of eggs (not silky strands like typical egg drop soup, 1/5), and the rice that came with the Subgum was very dry and hard, definitely day old rice. The chow mein itself was okay, very saucy and a little salty (2/5).
My partner's lunch combo included the spring roll, ginger salad, and entree of chow mein with tofu. The ginger salad had a weird sweetness to it that we both weren't a fan of (1/5), the spring roll didn't taste of fresh herbs and the peanut sauce it came with was also weirdly sweeter than your typical hoisen sauce (1/5). Her chow mein was also a little over sauced and once again, weirdly sweet. The tofu absorbed a lot of the sauce so it was a little goopy (2/5). She had also ordered the ice thai tea and that was sweetened with condensed milk that made it very sweet as well and the tea leaves weren't steeped enough as it was very faint flavors of the tea (1/5).
Overall, the flavor profile was not for us. The weird thing about many of our dishes and drinks were just the overly sweet flavor. I have a huge sweet tooth so it doesn't bother me normally, but some dishes aren't meant to be that sweet like the sweet egg drop soup. I will say the service was at least amazing though! Friendly and was prompt. We got sat down quickly and got food quickly. Just not what we want out of Asian food and not our...
Read moreDo not make the same mistake my co-workers and I did by believing this is a Vietnamese restaurant. This is the McDonald's of traditional vietnamese food. The Pho was an imposter of cheap and effortless ingredients dumped into a bowl. I have enjoyed over a thousand bowls of Pho from well over 100 restaurants and this was undoubtedly the worst I have ever had. The broth was clearly something out of a jug or packet. It was not made over the course of 6 hours in a giant pot like real Pho broth in a real Vietnamese establishment. The beef in it was sparse and tasted like it was never alive at all. I swear they don't even use real rice noodles. Look at the photos, have you ever seen rice noodles in Pho that look even remotely like that? They were thick, flavorless, and undercooked. I really can't state how much of a disappointment the Pho here was. Nobody should EVER order it, let alone seek out a Pho restaurant nearby (like myself) and come to Wok in the Park for it.
The Singapore noodles at least had some decent flavor to them. I didn't outright hate them or feel robbed/duped like I did with the Pho sitting next to them. That being said, they were still the worst Singapore noodles I've ever had.
The restaurant receives 1 star from me only because the place was comfortable visually and the server was pleasant. The food, however, will be the reason I never return and will warn others not to as well. Such a loss coming here when I only get to go out for lunch once a week and spend so much time looking forward to it. Can't remember the last time I was so disappointed in my decision.
If you want Vietnamese food - real Vietnamese food, not something design for basic people who have no idea what they are missing - go basically...
