yum! was a different experience for me. I'm torn as to whether I really liked it or not. I am giving it a 4/5 on everything for now and will visit again in the near future. Let me break down my thoughts on this place:
The first thing I noticed was the parking was horrid. Luckily someone was leaving as I was in process of turning around and giving up. I got a spot and went inside. The place was maybe at half capacity. Big issue with parking. There were two order stations, I wasn't quite sure which to go to. One had a line and looked like the focus might be bakery items, so I went to the other counter which had no line. I started looking at the menu board, but was interrupted by having a breakfast menu handed to me. I ordered from the breakfast menu, not sure if that meant the menu board was not available yet. I got the salmon hash. The salmon was very tasty, but the potatoes were too carmelized.
Here are some of the conflicts with this place, other than the very poor parking situation. They had cloth napkins, a sign of fine dining, but you ordered at the counter and took a number, very fast food dining. Everything about the place made me think "hipster" but there weren't any people wearing winter beanies ironically. Yes, avacodo toast was on the menu. Most of the customers appeared to be the same exact people I would see at Perkins or a truck stop. Mind you I have had fine dining in many countries, and I love dives and mom and pops. But usually, the atmosphere of the place tends to match the clientele. This is what was unsettling.
I look forward to trying then again, and I will update my review as needed. I'm sticking with the 4/5 for now, as technically there were no "issues" beyond the poor parking situation.
Update: Tried them again around 4 pm Most of the tables were empty when I entered, but I was lucky to find a parking spot. I tried the Burger Burger and thought it was very tasty. The pickle spear had no flavour. The chip were tasty. I had some dessert too, which was tasty but too rich for me to finish. By the time I left (hung out an hour or so) the place was packed. No idea where anyone parked. I think my biggest issue is they should have table side service and possibly better tables and chairs. Otherwise the food prices/quality...

Tucked away in Uptown is Yum! Kitchen and Bakery, a delightful spot for those with a sweet tooth. This quiet and quaint establishment offers a soothing ambiance that perfectly complements its delectable offerings.
Upon my visit, I was in search of something sweet, and the staff there were quick to recommend a variety of options that were nothing short of delicious. To my pleasant surprise, they also catered to dietary preferences, providing vegan options that were truly a standout feature for me.
The outdoor seating area of Yum! is charming and inviting, making it a great choice for a sunny day. However, the indoor seating area seemed a bit underpopulated during my visit, which affected the atmosphere somewhat. But given the beautiful weather on that day, it made sense that most patrons were preferring to dine al fresco.
My experience at Yum! was mainly focused on their desserts and pastries, and I have to say, they were all exceptional. From texture to taste, everything was spot-on, making it a place I'd highly recommend for dessert enthusiasts. I haven't yet ventured into their other menu offerings, so I can't comment on those, but given the quality of their sweet treats, I have high hopes.
What struck me about Yum! was the excellent value for money, particularly for an establishment that exudes such a fashionable, posh vibe. The dessert prices were a delightful surprise, with most items hovering around the five-dollar mark - a true bargain for the Uptown area.
All in all, Yum! Kitchen and Bakery offers a rewarding culinary experience. If you're a dessert and pastry lover seeking a tranquil setting to enjoy some high-quality treats, this place is a must-visit. Despite my initial visit being primarily for their sweets, their friendly staff, charming atmosphere, and exceptional value for money have convinced me to return soon to explore their...
Read moreSo, I initially decided to go to Yum based on it appearing in a CityPages list of top places to eat with kids in the Twin Cities. Well, this is a tale of 2 experiences...
First, the food: The food, each time I've gone is very good. I've tried the mussels, fish tacos, chicken salad and fish and chips. They certainly know how to cook and the atmosphere is open and bright witch makes it feel like you're outside even when you're not. However, that is where the fun ends.
If you have more than one kid, don't take them here, its a disaster. Issue #1: Menu: There is no kids menu, which seems strange given that its a "kid-friendly" restaurant. Then, if you just want to peruse the menu from a location you can actually see it, you are ALWAYS in someone's way. You cannot just stand at the counter and look (which is a requirement with no kids menu) if you have kids. You will either be in the way of the folks delivering food to the tables or the other patrons trying to order. They jam everyone that is pre-meal into a tiny space and then fill it up with tables full of toys/gadgets for sale that inevitably, a kid is going to get into. Issue #2: Ordering: Anyone with kids knows, ordering food is not always a smooth process. But, at Yum, you are queued up and at any time there are at least 1-3 people/parties waiting behind you to order and as said before, there is no where to just stand to the side to figure it all out. You are there, with a cashier staring at you mumbling answers(?) to your questions which are inaudible and you have a stack of hungry folks behind you wanting to eat. Pressure's on...After you've managed to order and find a table things go much better, but it just isn't worth the hassle. Oh, and if you need a booster seat, you won't find one. They do have the wooden high chairs but no boosters. D'Amico & Sons is a way better option for a...
