I had heard of Caydence...but never stopped in until last night to catch a gig. Whoa... what a hidden gem!! The door fella was super friendly and caught me offguard when I was reaching for my wallet for the cover charge, when he asked cash or card? We can charge a cover charge? I am a rarity.... no record player, so I didn't look around, also not a coffee drinker so I didn't stop by the counter. I asked the doorman if the shows were standing room only or there were chairs? He said standing but he would check. He popped out w a metal stool. I told him that would be great! The stage area is maybe 35 steps away from the door and there were two small high top tables back there. Before the stage area there are two tables and chairs for guests to sit at, across from the coffee counter. Free street parking is plenty on Payne, most of the hour restrictions are for the afternoon. I liked the friendly door fella even more when he came back to the music area during the first show and was jumping around to the music and taking video! The acoustics/music are great for such a small area. When I left the door fella said they have live music every Friday & Saturday night. I went last night specifically to hear/see the Dirty Pretty but was extremely blown away by the rad music of Polar Red so I may pop in on occasion to hear other local bands... find some new music! If you like local music, have a record player, drink coffee, or just want to support a local business, stop in to Caydence!! Thanks Caydence, Polar Red and The Dirty Pretty fun an outstanding...

I used to really like this place, but I had a couple really bad experiences in a row. I was overcharged by more than $20 on my last visit, and didn't notice until it posted on my credit card statement a few days later. I went back in that weekend (I work during their open hours during the week) and brought my statement, the items I bought, and the card I used, so they could look up the transaction and refund the overcharge, as I wasn't given a receipt. The cashier said it would be "too hard to look up the transaction," because I took "so long" to come back in and tell them (7 days, only 3 days after the transaction posted on my end.)

It was super embarrassing and he made me feel really guilty for no reason. He eventually offered me a $20 bill to make up for most of the overcharge, but he was pretty rude, clearly didn't believe me (even though he could have taken the time to look up the transaction) and implied that this was my fault for not taking off work to rush in and inform them of their mistake the moment I noticed it. I don't live near the shop, and didn't want to give my credit card info over the phone, so I had to make a special trip to get my money back. There was no apology, I was just treated like a thief. Regardless, I was polite and thanked him for his help, and he just grunted at me and walked away.

This left a really bad taste in my mouth. I want to support local, so I may try this place again after a while, but I hope by then they are choosing to be a little more kind in the way they...

Really enjoyed our visit. My daughter and I like to try new coffee places and this one on the east side of St. Paul caught my attention. I grew up not too far away and I am thrilled to see the east side make a comeback. The location is convenient - easy street parking. The place isn't overly big but decent seating available inside and they have several small tables and a gazebo set up outside. I'm not a big fan of lattes. To me it's a milk drink with a splash of espresso. I really want to drink the coffee. However, I couldn't pass up the polyphia with it's interesting combination of flavors. It was FABULOUS. Often a latte doesn't deliver on it's promised flavors and just tastes like sweet milk. I could taste the lemon, the cardamom and best of all, the creamy, delicious peanut butter. My daughter had one, too, and agreed it might be the best we've ever had. Also, they have a small breakfast menu in addition to really tempting bakery goods (from sweet to savory). We had both - breakfast tacos, breakfast sandwich, coffee cake and a kouign-amann. All very, very good. I can't wait to return and planning on the...

Caydence is a really nice spot for coffee in the Twin Cities! Their atmosphere is excellent—super cool and hip but also very approachable—and I love that they also sell records. They have a nice little selection of vinyls, and their merch is also super fun and well-designed. On my visit I tried the “Polyphia” which I thought was pretty tasty and had an excellent balance of flavor. I am always looking for that right ratio of flavor in my latte so that it's fully present but not too overpowering or sweet, and I think this drink definitely achieved that. I also found the staff to be nice and friendly. When they realized they had initially made me the wrong size of drink (10oz instead of 16oz), they immediately remade me the correct size and were very kind and helpful. Overall, Caydence is a great coffeehouse and I'll definitely be back to try their other flavored drinks and peruse their records. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area!

Laid back cafe with very modest but trendy, menu and coffees. Browse the vinyl and cassette tape collections if inclined or just absorb the ambience, it's chill and casual. Popular with the locals. No alcohol served here so even for late night acts the crowd is never ever boisterous (which I love). There are a range of local bakery baked treats, some sweet and others savory -- very interesting to get some proteins this way too. The hot sandwiches, eggs, tacos etc. are cooked fresh on the spot, on demand, served hot and fresh from a little tabletop two burner stove, cute! Space and a stage at the back for live acts and other community activity by local musicians sometimes
