La Cabaña — Restaurant in Saint Paul

You will not expect excellent meals on the menu from the outside look and upon the casual, down to earth simple look if the place. After 10 hours of quite tense work day, skipping the lunch, we needed some good early dinner treat. Well La Cabana, didn't disappoint us. I ordered the whole red snapper, fried, my favorite from the Caribbean trips. The fish was done perfect with right spices and crunchy and crisp fish. Others got the Carne Asada and chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. Both excellent meals. Could not handle alcohol and ordered the pina colada, very, very nicely done, not sweet, tasting the pineapple and coconut flavors distinctly. I say if you are not fussy and need a real good Mexican dinner, this is the place. Service is good and attentive, need to know a bit of spanish. The place gets busy with families showing up and sharing big meal entrees. By the way, the home made chips tasted really different and very nice texture!! Not sure what...

Bad experience will never go back!!!1st its not very family oriented, food is not great, and restrooms are dirty their is urine every where. I also saw first hand how the waitresses ignore female customers, (i waited 15 mins for a shot) just so they can take advantage of male customers. They serve them so much alcohol to the point where they are falling over, and instead of cutting them off like bars do they take advantage of them by over charging them. I heard a female waitress demand that she be tipped not 5$ or 10$ but 50$ to a 100$ dollars and once they get it they kick them out. (Imagine i saw all this during a 2 hour stay) I saw this waitress serve alcohol that was left behind by a customer who didnt finish drinking it so she basically refills the bottles and serves it to those who are too...

The food was not that great but the customer service was amazing. I didn't find that the food had authentic Mexican seasonings. It was kind of on the Bland Side.... the chips and the taco shell were very thick- hard - sort of dark colored from grease. I would prefer a lighter crispy shell that wasn't so saturated in grease. This restaurant please Spanish movies with subtitles and has authentic staff I'm not sure why the food didn't create the same Vibe though it looked authentic the taste just was not there. More of a cafe style...
