We had our wedding reception in the Williamsburg Room at The Lex back in September and it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. We had an intimate wedding with about 50 guests and our vision was what I described as a "JFK Jr and Carolyn Bessette wedding vibe combined with a classy Jazz Supper Club feel" And it couldn't have been more perfect than to do it in such a sophisticated and historic building. The food was delicious and the service was IMPECCABLE. Not only did we feel like we were A-list stars, but our guests felt that way too.
Minda was an absolute dream to work with during the planning and during the day of - no question was too big or too silly. She was so helpful and made sure I was taken care of every step of the way! I don't live locally, which made it a little more tricky for the planning process, but she'd go out of way to send me pictures and videos of the space to help me with all the little planning details! Even my MOH gushed about how wonderful it was to coordinate with her.
The bartenders and waitstaff epitomized the vintage Supper Club feel, with perfect service and just being so incredibly friendly. The best part was, I had my nieces and nephews in attendance and the bartenders didn't just make them kiddie cocktails - they went all out to make them fancier concoctions than I usually receive at a normal cocktail bar! (I included a fun little picture and video as an example!) A special shoutout to Andrew who really went all out and even got my nephew a fun little hat while making one of the drinks. The kids all had so much fun just from the entertainment of their drinks.
It has been 8 months since our wedding and my guests will STILL randomly talk about how amazing our reception was and how fantastic Andrew is. We have never experienced a bartender as amazing as him and I hope he knows just how much we appreciate that he brought so much fun and laughter to our reception. I even had guests from Philly concocting ideas on whether they could fly him out for their own wedding. :)
We can't wait to come...
Read moreVery disappointing experience for the price. While there were some things that landed well and I will mention what went right we booked a valentines day dinner date on a Saturday night that was really a bust for us. The environment was cold and unwelcoming. Our waitress talked down to us in a way that made us feel like we did not belong there. This was a once in a year type of occasion for us and we left feeling like we were in the wrong for making an appearance. Having our orders being laughed at by the waitress taking the order was not ideal. We did see top quality service to regulars that were seated near us and saw how attentive and warm the staff was to them but our first time there was cold and uncomfortable.
What went right: Cocktails were superb. The #9 was great as were the dessert cocktails
The steak was a cooked perfectly.
The service was timely even if it was uncomfortable/impersonal.
Criticisms: Impersonal service and feeling of being out of place just being at the establishment. I don't see why staff would feel it appropriate to laugh at an order. If it's on the menu and you find some kind of issue with a dish let me know. Laughing about an order just feels rude.
The dishes did not flow well together. There was a lot done right but the way things were assembled felt haphazard. There are good dishes but for this price I should be able to order anything and have an enjoyable experience through each course.
Overall it feels like the experience is catered to those who attend the establishment regularly and if you are here for a special occasion it is possible you will be overlooked. I do not recommend The Lexington if you want to splurge on a meal as our bill was over $400 and we left feeling disappointed and unimpressed. If we did give it another shot it would just be for a cocktail and not for a special occasion.
Update: Management did reach out and I appreciated their follow up. I don’t often leave reviews and it’s not often I hear back. I’ll likely give the Lexington another shot for their excellent...
Read moreLovely place to enjoy nice food, listen to live music (we went on a Saturday) with great service.
Food: We went as a couple. We both ordered different salads ( the iceberg and him the Caesar) both were excellent! Then we ordered the walleye cakes for an appetizer- which was a refreshing and well paired combination with cucumber. For dinner he ordered the Lobster sandwich (which was an open face, slightly warm lobster with a delicate avocado spread on Texas toast) and I ordered the Salmon which was crusted with crab paired with bernaise sauce and asparagus. Both were delectable, although the salmon could have a little more flavor. We each ordered reds for wine which were full bodied and full of flavor. The bread served was delicious as well. For dessert we did the crème brûlée was was enjoyable to the palate, overall the food was 4/4.5 out of 5.
Atmosphere: we sat in the Williamsburg room a table away from the live jazz pianist which was wonderful and exactly what we wanted. You only have to pay an extra $5 per person in that room but I do recommend if you enjoy music and are there on a weekend. The building was clean and is kept up to my higher standards of cleanliness. 5/5
Service: friendly, knowledgeable and professional service that was also quicker than we expected. Our drinks were always filled, cutlery restocked and attention was key. Also appreciate the white glove service attire. 5/5 for service.
Parking: several options. You can park valet for a fee, back lot for a fee or find street parking or in the “st. Paul eye clinic” lot if you’re there after 5pm daily. 4.5/5
Overall we enjoyed our experience. We would recommend if you enjoy fine dining in a more causal dressed place. Some folks wore button up’s and a causal dress whereas others were more semi-causal. But most folks put some effort in looking well groomed as you would assume in a place like such. My overall...
