Asian restaurants in the St. Louis area are very hit-and-miss, so when trying a new one, we always order a variety of entrees to sample the menu and decide if the location is worth returning to. Plus, I like having leftovers for a day or two.
The interior is nice and looked clean.
I'm trying to find a polite way to call this terrible, but I'm struggling to think of another word. I'm hoping there was a new cook in the back, or something similar. The Kung Pao shrimp were tiny, the sort that would suitable for popcorn shrimp. The dish did have a lot of them, but only a few pieces of green pepper and tons of water chestnuts, and peanuts. The shrimp tasted very fishy, and no real flavor in the sauce at all. I selected the heat as "4" out of 5. Next were the two curries, Red & Green. It was a handful of carrot, broccoli, & bamboo shoots (?) in a salty coconut milk, for $12 each. The green did have a decent lemongrass flavor. The Garlic Broccoli were undercooked and tasted of freezer burn. The Drunken Noodles were actually made from dried ramen noodles, first time I've ever seen that one. Also, for some reason, the Mei Fun was brown. All of the above dishes were surprisingly greasy. The rice was the highlight; hot, fluffy, and not dried out. We also had Crab Rangoon, which I'd rate as a bit...
Read moreI really wanted to enjoy my experience at 101 Asian Cuisine, and to be fair, the service was absolutely outstanding. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we felt welcome throughout our visit.
Unfortunately, the food didnât quite live up to the same standard. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, and while the portion was generous, several of the shrimp hadnât been deveined, which was disappointing. Itâs a small detail, but one that makes a big difference.
The pork egg roll left a lot to be desired. It tasted like something youâd get from a cheap, frozen vendorâdefinitely not freshly made. The texture and flavor just screamed "mass-produced."
The biggest letdown, though, was the orange chicken. It was clear from the first bite that this dish started off frozen and prepackaged. The sauce was overly sweet, and the chicken itself lacked any juiciness and was instead, dry.
Iâm sure there are better dishes on the menu, and based on the exceptional service, Iâd be willing to give them another shot. But for now, I canât recommend the dishes we tried. Hopefully, next time the food will match the level of care and attention their...
Read moreHIGHLY DISAPPOINTED Are you under new ownership? Were new cooks working tonight?? I ordered Chow Mein- not Chop Suey. Received white rice as in chop suey, not the crispy noodles. Ordered MA Po Tofu- third time from here, so I am familiar with the dish. WHY was it in a thin brown gravy this time and not the spicy red sauce? Look the dish up on the internet- the tofu is in a red sauce. Why were you unfamiliar with how to make this dish tonight? To top it all off, the paper bag it was delivered in was soaked on one side with this brown gravy all over the sauce packets, fortune cookies and utensils. How nice for our dinner. I was a regular customer. This experience has made me question ordering from here again. It is way too expensive to be spending money on unacceptable errors when the order was not that...
