From the moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with the warmest of smiles from the staff, who went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of spectacular. The ambiance is both nostalgic and contemporary, with a classic American diner feel that's infused with a lively energy that's simply contagious.

But let's talk about the star of the show - the food. Portillo's boasts a diverse menu, but their signature Chicago-style hot dogs are nothing short of divine. Piled high with fresh ingredients, including a perfectly steamed poppy seed bun, a juicy all-beef frank, and an array of toppings such as neon green relish, onions, tomatoes, pickles, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt, each bite is an explosion of flavors that leaves you craving more.

The Italian beef sandwich, served on a soft yet sturdy roll, is another must-try. The tender, succulent beef, coupled with the zesty giardiniera, was a delightful combination that left my taste buds singing. And don't even get me started on the heavenly crinkle-cut fries - golden, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside, they're the perfect accompaniment to any meal.

Overall great experience and they meet the niche they are selling. We tried nearly everything except the salads and bowls (but more on that in a second) while the beefs were on point, I’ve got to give a special shout out to the vegetarian option, the mushroom burger. It was as high end as I’ve ever had somewhere! So grateful they didn’t just sell one of the many fake burger brands. The combination of flavors on the vegetarian option met the combination of flavors they offer on all of their meat options. Very, very impressed. We did experience a minor problem but it kinda ended up being a little bit of miscommunication on both of our ends. The first was an order that was completely different but the second order was our fault for calling it the Italian combo and not the italian combo bowl. Either way, we were able to try items we hadn’t before and everyone so super pleasant about it all. We did not request a third item since it was our mistake. But without the mess up, we wouldn’t have gotten to try the amazing bread of the Italian combo! Wow! I will definitely say that they have some amazing breads here. The portobello burger is the one pictured with the sun-dried tomato’s all over it. (Sooo good!!) Lastly, I cannot leave the 5 stars without including the atmosphere. My kids first thought was that it looked like we were in a Disney park! Ha! So we’ll done! Definitely coming back for dinner again soon. Jose and members of his team took extraordinary action to be sure our group was satisfied, even delighted.

As happens from time to time in any business, a glitch in the system occurred and our order was delayed and the status was confusing. Ultimately our food was presented and was exactly as expected, delicious!

To assure our satisfaction, because of the delays and confusion, first the fellow at the pick up counter encouraged us to have desserts on the house. We were truly impressed... what a commitment to customer satisfaction!

But it wasn't the end of the experience. Jose personally sought us out and presented us with another impressive gesture of goodwill, a refunded check for the meal. He insisted that we accept this gesture, and it certainly proved to us that his commitment, and his staff's commitment, to delighting "the customer" is extraordinary.

We really love Portillo's, all of our frequent prior experiences have gone flawlessly, so we know the standards, but it is with this experience, and the incredible response, that we uunderstand just how deep their commitment to a terrific customer experience really goes.

Thank you to Jose and team for assuring our complete satisfaction. I can't wait to get back there, have a terrific meal again, appreciate the cheerful staff, super clean facilities and terrific & tasty meal.
