Went here for the first time because I was dying for a piece of fish. For such a nice looking place, all outside key west-style it was weird that you had to go up and order yourself to get a number.
I went with the fresh fish of the day on a Sammie.. I went for the house rub which was a $2 up charge and potato wedges which wa also a $2 upcharge. It was almost $33 without a drink or a tip. Sorry, I refused to tip if I have to walk up and do all myself.
Anyway went to the bar and got a drink and started another tab. They told me at the food window that I could do a drink there but I didn’t know what I wanted.
Food came out and fish was really thick and really tasty but it did not have one drop of salt on the fish flesh nor in the breading. Everyone knows you season everything. I needed to ask for salt. Still it was good for the price.
My bartender was great and I want to love this place but it was so freaking hot and humid there and there is no inside seating. It was weird though, the kid from inside the food area, the one that I didn’t tip came outside. When it came time to pay he took the tab away from the seasoned bartender and I gave my card to him and left a tip, but pretty sure the guy that made my drink didn’t get that tip this kid did. I thought that whole thing was strange.
And now I notice 5 days later that there is another pending charge on my credit card….the other 2 pended and our gone. They are closed for 2 days now of course and I haven’t been there since Wednesday and the new charged showed up on Monday the day they are closed of course. So now I have to wait to recitfy this. This happens to me a lot lately and I dare not say that it is fraud. But what I do think is that kid coming over and stepping in on my bartenders sale probably looked like I walked out and didn’t pay on the veteran bartender that I was actually having a nice convo with.
I’m really sick of when I do go out having this overcharge thing happen on my account. It makes me less likely to go back and makes me feel like people are careless or maybe accessing my card without permission. It suck’s bc that amber jack was so fresh and just...
Read moreMy first time in St. Pete and my friend took my girl and I to this bar and restaurant. The venue has ample parking nearby in all directions. It's got good space in the bar area with seats and tables surrounding all sides. The back area past the kitchen even has more seating for eating and slightly quieter scene. There were two unisex bathrooms that were pretty clean. There would be a small line/wait at times. All of the workers there were accommodating to our small dog, and there were several other dogs of various sizes there as well. A young waitress brought ice water bowls out for all of the pups.
Bartenders we're attentive and mixed drinks for a full bar with good timing. Drinks were done right for the most part. The seige the day drink was a tad sweet for us so we asked for it less sweet and all of the bartenders did it right afterwards with plenty of strength.
We ordered the amberjack fish spread, fresh catch nuggets, smoked shrimp, portabella salad, fried corn, and key lime pie. The fish spread was good and you could really taste the freshness in the fish. I'm not big on hard/crispy bread, so I could do with out that in lieu of something softer or lightly toasted. The fish nuggets were freaking delicious, juicy, and I would recommend to anyone. Smoked shrimp was plump and juicy, and came with their sauce. I prefer old bay, and forgot to order it on the side. However, I so want to note to ppl that these shrimps are smoked, so they are very tender! Portabella salad was very good. Mushroom cooked right and all greens fresh. Fried corn had a nice even coat of cheese, and was a little overdone for me, but was still very sweet and delicious. I prefer a nice plump basic corn on the cob. Key lime pie was also very good.
If you're looking for good drinks, fresh seafood, or a good time watching the game... Don't second guess a visit to...
Read moreA couple weeks ago I went to Trophy Fish with a couple girls from that came out of town with me from college hoping to have a good time. Most of the evening was just okay, but only because I was in good company with my friends.
The bartender BROOKE, besides getting our drink orders completely wrong, this woman was extremely rude and unprofessional. Not only could we see her whispering, pointing and talking to the other waitresses about us, but she was extremely snappy and rolled her eyes while speaking to us. Brook even slammed our drink on the counter and laughed about it as soon as she turned around. For an “upper scale” restaurant I was astonished at the unprofessionalism. The work culture here seems like it’s normal for this type of behavior and I was totally embarrassed to have even suggested this establishment. Food was pretty decent. A couple things were over cooked but overall just a terrible experience. Hopefully this “bartender” can fix her attitude and stop making young women specifically, feel unwelcome. As a paying customer, I would not recommend this restaurant at all. I am not used to this where I live. You would think they would be extra kind considering this is a tourist area. Not everybody that dines here are locals, everywhere else We’ve been during our vacation has been amazing. I actually would recommend the restaurant Birch N Vine not too far away. We received much better service, food and basic decent respect there than the way we were treated by Brooke at Trophy Fish.
I’ve waited to post my review until we were back home in New York because now I’ve actually had time to digest my vacation, my friends and I agree this “bartender” should be layed off considering this is supposed to be an upscale establishment. Owners should be embarrassed at who they...
