The Hub German Restaurant & Lounge — Restaurant in Saint Robert

I’ve maybe left 3-4 reviews in my life, but credit should be given when it’s due. Having been raised by a traditional German grandmother in New England, I was eager, yet skeptical of a German restaurant here in the middle of Missouri.

The Hub has a very homey feel to it, a restaurant taking you back to the 1970s, with real dining room tables and nifty German decor around its walls. With most of Ft Leonard Wood enjoying likely St Louis or the Ozarks this Labor Day weekend, I stopped in to grab a bite.

Suzie was my server and I would discover this was her family’s restaurant. She was so sweet and took the time to talk with me about her family and mine’s history, shared cultures and memories. It was truly remarkable to have such a warm-hearted person to serve me as well as simply talk to me.

Now onto the food: the salad, served with a side of cabbage and green beans is something I grew up with and was happily, and delectably surprised to see. When you have a salad that requires 0 dressing, you know you’ve hit a home run! Then came the main course, I opted for the Schnitzel Trio as I couldn’t pick just one thing. Oh my goodness, this was exactly like Oma’s cooking. From the perfect spaetzle to the savory gravy, it was like being transported back home to Oma’s house. Enticed to try some cake, although many slices of choice were sold out (first come first serve!), I snagged a slice of German chocolate cake and was not disappointed. Washed down with two German beers, this experience was as close to home as I’ve gotten since being here at Ft Leonard Wood. When you first walk in there's a cake case. I haven't seen a restaurant with those before and boy did all the cakes and cheese cakes look good. I should've taken pics of it. The crab legs where yummy, the waitresses where awesome and very sweet. The prices where kind of high but your paying for great seafood. I tried my daughter's whole catfish. It tasted better than it looked. The catfish inside the battered whole fish was tender and the battery was yummy too once you break into it. The next time I'm there I'm going to take more pics. The banana cheese cake was very rich and good but I didn't taste enough banana whatever they used to make it banana they should increase for that flavor. All in all it was a birthday dinner I will always remember. The only thing we didn't like was. If you don't like sour things ask for them to leave the green beans off on the salad that comes with the dinner. But then it is a Germany restaurant. If you've never had fried green beans try them they where so yummy the batter was perfect. So if you are looking for a rememberable dining experience check then out. First time eating at this place yesterday and I’ve been around for 5 years but I can definitely say the food is soooooooo good !!!!! I got Hamburger Steak and it was seasoned perfectly the gravy that came wit it was also super amazing ! My baked potato was cooked perfectly because yes you can mess up a baked potato and it be no potato just skin if you don’t cook it right but it was so soft and very thick and full of potato may sound crazy but that stuff matters to me because I don’t want no little ol potato! But back to my meat! It was juicy also. Now they do serve it medium well with a Lil pink in it now me personally I don’t like the pink meat so I simply asked for it to be cooked longer and that also wasn’t an issue at all she took the meat back and brought it back to me just the way I wanted it so that was also very good of them to do that… I did know my waiter but spite all that she kept it very professional and she was very good and made sure everything we ordered was good. Very awesome … but yes I had to leave a good review because hands down this place is really good and I wish I would’ve tried it sooner than what I did but I’m glad I did and I will be returning to this place...
