I got the chance to visit Sara's for the first time in about 9 years today. As a kid my walks to Sara's to sit at a little table with my classy ornate glass and shake spoon were SO special to me. Today I was excited to bring my fiance to this favorite childhood spot. The ice cream tasted exactly the same as it did when I was a kid and the service was okay but here is the knife in my heart... OUR SANDAES WE'RE SERVED IN A WHITE STYROFOAM CUP WITH THE WEAKEST PLASTIC SPOON I HAVE EVER HELD. You just can't have an this timeless old school ice cream parlor and ruin the whole experience out of what I can only assume is the laziness of not wanting to wash the glasses after we were finished (the clean glasses were sitting right there and we were never asked if our order was 'to-go'). It might sound like a stupid thing to be upset over but in a place like Ste. Genevieve where authenticity, history, and nostalgia are your reasons to visit, I felt silly handing my friends this dinky little foam cup after hyping up this old fashioned ice cream parlor the whole 2 hour ride down here.
