The atmosphere is surprisingly dark, we parked across the street since it was so nice out and didn't have trouble finding a spot. The tables are nice, spaced out well. Bar is very pretty. The fire pit was lovely, my partner wanted to be closer to it but didn't even know about it until we sat down.
The drinks were mediocre and overpriced honestly. The night before, my adult foster took me to outback for her mother's day gift and the drinks, despite having different ingredients, were almost identical but far more reasonable pricing and better to a fair degree to taste. My partner was a little disappointed they don't carry any ciders, all beers, wines, and cocktails. They should consider stocking some of the great local breweries like 2Towns ciders or Wyrd for their mead.
The food, wow. The food was amazing. My partner ordered the fettuccine, he loved it. He's not usually a big fan of veggies but he found the broccolini very flavorful, even wanted more! And he's a bit picky about food, he struggles with meats that have fat on them, but he loved the chicken as well. Only thing he didn't love were the shredded green/spring onions on top. I had the braised shortrib, sauce on the side. It was beautifully cooked served on a bed of mushroom risotto and charred broccolini. Naturally I was concerned that the sauce would be just a little overwhelmingly spicy however it was not at all problematic. The meat was so well cooked it simply fell apart when I touched it, and the risotto was not overcooked or mushy at all, nor was it undercooked and crunchy. The only trouble I had was that the bread they served before the meal was very hard on the outside edges, I have jaw damage and could not eat it. A slight drawback was that my risotto had a few short black hairs in it, but I'm not the type to get grossed out by just hair. A gentleman who I assumed was a manager or shift leader did come over and asked if I still wanted it and I assume if I had said no they would have offered to remake my dish or somehow make amends for it, but I wasn't all that offended by it and said it was fine so he said he would pass the message on to the cooking staff.
I've been to a majority of the restaurants in the salem/keizer and honestly this was probably the best meal I've had anywhere in the last couple years. For dessert, we settled on creme brulee because it was a dish I've never had. And it too was wonderful, my partner has had it many times and said it was slightly better than average but not spectacular.
Our server was a delightful young lady named Alexis, she was very attentive and polite and made fun conversation when appropriate and checked on us often. We decided can absolutely be repeated and it might just be where we go on our anniversary dinner dates. Little pricey for regular outings but on special occasions when we have sitters,...
Read moreWe came to Salem to support a friend and her husband during body building state championships at the Salem Convention Center. She suggested we try the restaurant that’s connected to the hotel they’re staying at and to the center. Bentleys.
It was around 6:30 on a Saturday night. Not too busy in the dining room yet. There was a 40 top in the other room though. Hostess accommodated us with seating.
Our waitress seemed friendly enough. We were her fourth table and I’m not sure if she had the 40 top but saw her and others running stuff to them.
I ordered the Alfredo and the Caesar salad. At first, I loved the salad. Once I wrapped my head around it being served in 4 wedges. I got to the last wedge and noticed movement. A worm, larvae, maggot, something dropped out from the end of the salad. Like it had been in the dressing and it crawled its way out. The waitress hadn’t been back to the table since taking the order so I had this worm thing just crawling around my plate and my fork. Less and less appealing. I’m finally able to wave her over.
At first, she didn’t see it. But it was literally moving so yeah, you see it. I was offered another salad 😅😂 yeah big fat nope. This was the last wedge. I’d already eaten three of them. Who knows how many of these worms/larvae were in those. I’m pregnant and can’t even eat deli meat. An unknown worm/larvae/parasite I could’ve possibly ingested.
She said she told the chef (not the manager) and he said they get fresh lettuce every 2 days and they do rinse it but things happen. She took the salad off the bill and offered free dessert. No manager ever came to the table. This is THEE barest minimum offer for this level.
The entrees came. Alfredo was dry and it had a broccoli thing on top I was actually looking forward to trying when I ordered it, but I definitely was not eating anything green from this place. Boxed most of it as I was paying for it and I probably won’t be eating it. Got a chocolate cake free dessert. My four year old loved that. Thank you.
So I do not recommend the salad here. Nor have any faith in the management, if they were even told. Ironically the bill was $86… please 86 the worms. Have a video too, can’t upload it...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is beautiful. Very impressive as you're walking into the hotel. The service has always been impeccable and our server tonight I think her name was Jamie was equally so. The brussel sprouts were absolutely amazing and some of the best I've ever had. Everything else as far as food was average at best and I was actually pretty disappointed other than the atmosphere and our great service. When you have a place like Bentleys and a very well known chef like Hans, people expect a certain level of quality in their food and we certainly did not get that tonight. The seafood chowder was just on the verge of breaking. The cream base broth was slightly sour so obviously it had reached too high of a temperature. The spaghetti with bolognese sauce was definitely incorrect. That 1 I'm going to call you out on because it was embarrassing to get that . Whoever prepared that dish does not know the meaning of bolognese. It means meat sauce.lol This was a marinara sauce with maybe 1/16 of an ounce of ground meat. The sauce was overwhelmingly tart and not good at all. Over all my food for this dinner was pretty disappointing and the reason I'm writing this review is it really embarrassed me in front of my guest from the bank whom I have been bragging about your restaurant for months. So chefs I would just like you to understand that guests that arrive at 9 o'clock should be given the same quality and presentation of food as guests that arrive at 5 o'clock. I understand being told Hey the soup has broke or we are out of certain items because it's late in the evening but I do not understand just wing it and...
