Read moreAlright, took my kids here for the first time today. As soon as we walked in, we were immediately greeted by Big-G who spent almost 10-minutes giving us a tour of this shop and how everything works; I never felt so welcome as a first time customer anywhere. He even gave my kids some free Pokémon cards!
Completely taken back by the amazing ambience of the store; you gotta walk down an alleyway and into a basement to get there, such a cool grungy feeling for a card shop. The shop itself is very clean and organized.
Then comes Joey, the owner of the shop. This guy is a legend! He took the time to speak with my kids and I and show us more of how the store works. I love that he got down to my kids level and made them feel so welcome. He threw a couple free packs of cards to my kids, one of the cards pulled was worth $20!!!!
It only gets better! A Pokémon expert, Ryan, walks in the store and starts opening a box. He just kept on throwing cards to my kids to be nice. Each of my kids probably got 100 cards completely out of charity, I came in only expecting to buy them a couple cards each!
It is not every day that you find a store that really does value the importance of creating a welcoming, professional, and fun environment! Not only did the owner know ASL, he directed the entire conversation towards the dude I was supporting. That is HUGE in the field I work in. Very often, people will speak to me instead of the people I support, asking me what they want, as if they're my dog or kid or something. Super didn't happen there. The guy I was supporting felt heard and included in more ways than one. Small things like that are VERY important to the folks I work with.
Anyway, I don't know a ton about Pokémon cards myself, but he definitely didn't rip him off. When I used to play MTG, I was used to pulling a card "worth" say, 200 bucks and getting like sixty bucks from it from other stores. The guy I was with was given a super fair price.
The owner is very energetic, clearly likes what he's doing, and amping people up. Lots of high fives and "HELL YEAHS," as kids were opening up booster packs. The store is pretty cool too. It's a neat little underground spot.
Mostly, cool job being nice and friendly to someone who often...
