Don’t ever go to this cart! The owner is downright rude and arrogant. I asked about my order and kept insisting “do you want your money back, folks wait hours for my food”. He kept bragging about how customers wait over an hour for his food. Why the hell would you brag about taking so long to deliver food to your customers. I was 3rd in line at opening for ribs and it took over 40 mins to get my food. I patiently waited as I saw the first two customers got their food. It wasn’t even like he had a long line, he had 6 customers….6! Finally, I couldn’t understand how you can’t satisfy a few orders like the first two. Then he started f-bombing me (in front of families and kids by the way when I did not swear or raise my voice once) and claiming every time new customers that never tasted his food always complain. All I had to ask is why was it taking so long when the first two customers got their food over 20 mins before me and I didn’t. In addition, they had full combo orders…I ordered ribs and cornbread! It’s not like he makes the ribs on the spot. It would literally take him several minutes to make my order then continue taking orders. I understand when folks are understaff..I really do. We go to KuliKuli all the time because the food is good and he busts his butt. But this owner has the arrogance to tell me that I need to taste his food and shutup. I could care less how great your food is, I will not shutup and no one should put up with this type of arrogance. The unprofessionalism by swearing at me saying I’m ruining his F-ing Friday. I have never been treated this way and no one should ever go this cart! He will only serve local regulars and lose any new customer he gets. Good luck small fry! $45 for a combo with half ribs is thievery!
At the end he still offered me his food which I’m sure is good but was so put off by his demeanor that I will never go there. Anyone I can reach, sport families traveling to Salem, or anyone reading a great review will know the owner is an arrogant, repugnant, and should never get...
Read moreVery delicious and savory flavors with this food truck. It being a Friday, my mother and I had to come here for their fried catfish and hushpuppies; she had been looking forward to it all week. We even came back three hours later to order it because the guy had closed earlier in the day to make more food for the evening. Needless to say, it was worth it. The catfish was flaky and crispy, well-seasoned, and the dipping sauce that accompanied it was refreshing and complemented it super well—I could’ve eaten it from the container. The hushpuppies were great too with a subtle hint of spice. We also got an order of all their sides, and those were a home-run too; the collards were perfectly cooked and had a deep, complex flavor that made me wish I ordered more. The mac and cheese was super thick, creamy and decadent, and there was a hint of something I couldn’t put my finger on that made it extra good. The beans were great too, with tiny chunks of meat. My father got the chicken and ribs combo, and while I didn't get to taste any of that, he said they were very delicious. He said you could really taste the smokiness, but it wasn't overwhelming and the meat was all tender and juicy. Overall, a great place for some good old soul food. The ONLY thing I have to say that isn't exactly favorable is the wait time. I don't want to dock any stars for this because for one, there was only one guy who was making the food, taking orders, AND serving—he truly was a one-man-show. And for another, he's—understandably—a pretty popular food cart at the Yard Park, so it wasn't like he wasn't getting customers lined up at his stall. At one point, he had to write on his sign that he couldn't take anymore orders until he finished the others. But it did unfortunately take awhile for our order to be fulfilled. Otherwise, I'll be hitting this place up again for everything. I’d love to try their fried chicken and wings next time, and I’ll definitely be getting several order of...
Read moreLet me start by saying they make the best ribs that I have had, bar none. And I have had ribs from the Carolinas to here in Oregon, and all over in between (even Spain). They are amazing- meaty, juicy, and incredible sauce. Beyond the ribs, the mac and cheese is also some of the best- I've never made better at home, from scratch. The beans are the same- just amazing.
But.
You're going to be lucky if you get there when they are open, or when they have any food left. I stopped by The Yard last Tuesday for lunch. I know JoJo's isn't open on Tuesdays, but it sounded so good I decided to go back down on Saturday to get dinner (we live 45 minutes away- not just down the street). Guess what? Closed. And it was just after 5pm- it's not like I got down there 15 minutes before they closed and they left a little early. This isn't the first time they have randomly been closed on what are "supposed" to be their open days, either. Even when they are open, we've found they run out of food very often- and not just main courses, either. Sides seem to be in short supply. I totally understand not wanting to get stuck with a bunch of extra ribs or chicken, but having plenty of beans, mac and cheese, or coleslaw seems like a no-brainier. I feel like they would be wildly successful if they had better management- let who ever makes that amazing food keep doing it, but maybe turn the business portion over to someone else. If you're at the Yard and are lucky enough to be there when JoJo's is open- you will not be disappointed with food or how friendly...
