Taqueria El Jacalito — Restaurant in Salem

Have passed by this place every day for months, and finally we decided to give it a try based off some pictures on Facebook. It's a quaint little spot right across from Deepwood Museum and Tong King; it's tucked in the treeline going south and can easily be missed!

We ordered the Quesabirria, 2 Asada Street Tacos and 2 Fish - yes that's right - Fish Tacos. To find Fish Tacos on a Mexican restaurant menu around Salem is extremely rare and my significant other loves Fish Tacos so we had to take a risk and the risk was worth it ten fold!

Wait time for food was about 15 minutes but everything was piping hot, looked appetizing and smelt great. The asada here is strictly okay; we've struggled with every place recently with their asada bringing nothing to the table, so I'm not counting this against them.

But let me tell you about the Quesabirria and the Fish Tacos because HOLY CRAP .. best Fish Tacos we've had in a really long time. The fish was crusted from being fried and had a lovely bite to it and went so well with the toppings on it. 12/10 would highly recommend at $3.99 each. The Quesabirria is also some of, if not best we've had in this area and definitely rivals Redline for their Quesabirria.

I found the consummate to be far richer and enjoyable here than other places and actually amplified the birria as it's intended to do.

4.15.2024 TAX DAY TODAY I TRIED THE QUESABIRRIA THAT LOOK FRIED HOWEVER THEY ARE NOT FRIED. IT WAS FINDING A NEW FORMAT OF TACO. IT FILLED WITH YUM SHREDDED BEEF & CHEESE THEN SERVED WITH THE BEST CONSUME IN SALEM WITH ONIONS & CILANTRO. YOU CAN NOT MISS WITH ANYTHING ON THE MENU SO NEXT TIME TRY SOMETHING NEW!

I AM SO LUCKY TAQUERIA EL JACALITO OPENED A BLOCK AWAY. I WENT OVER AND HAD THE STREET TACOS RIGHT AWAY THAT ARE GREAT. ASADA ONIONS CILANTRO LIME & I LIKE MINE WITH RED SAUCE. TAQUERIA EL JACALITOS ENCHILADAS SAUCE IS MAGIC. I HAVE TOLD THEM IT NEEDS TO BE CANNED & SOLD. IT IS AN ALMOST PURPLY BURGUNDY COLOR & SUPER YUM. EVERYTHING IS ALWAYS FRESH & EVERYONE IS SO NICE. THEY HAVE COKES et al IN BOTTLES I LOVE & TODAY MY NEIGHBOR WAS GETTING A WATERMELON H20 THAT ON THIS HOT SALEM SUMMER DAY WAS PERFECT. GREAT FOOD. GREAT PEOPLE.

Tonight 8 blackjack …. I tried something new I got a chimichanga & I am so happy I did. YUM! The red sauce that comes with it like the taqueria el jacalito enchilada sauce is AMAZING. you can not go wrong with any thing you order. This place is amazing!!! They are kind people, always pleasant to work with every time we order, whether in person or over the phone. They clearly take pride in their business and we're so lucky to have them in our community! Everything tastes so authentic and so fresh! We've had tacos, sides, drinks, burritos, and nothing has ever disappointed! Tonight we had lengua and asada street tacos, tamales, chile relleno, and the machaca burrito. The burrito and the lengua taco were the two faves, but ALL were soooo good! The meat is so juicy, everything is flavorful, just the right amount of grease to add that yum without being too much and making you grossed out. Amazing!
