Well, most people, I being one of them, think yeah, pizza is pizza, right? Well, I was proven wrong. I saw a review for drop top Pizza on YouTube (Shout out to Detroit Food Review), and figured I drive through Saline every sunday, I might as well stop and check them out. It's not a very big place, I walked in and there was a bar on the left hand side, and the right hand side had about a dozen tables or so. When I sat down (sat at the bar) the waitress/bartender handed me all the menus ( food, drink, and daily specials) & took the time to explain how everything that they make was made fresh everyday before they open and was more than happy to answer any questions I might have regarding their menu. Very nice, a knowledgeable and caring staff. Definitely a plus. I liked that they had local craft beers on tap , the Stout I ordered was a delicious Michigan-made Stout. I was surprised when I looked at the menu, that all of their pizzas were under $20. Even though they are only six piece individual pan pizzas, I was still impressed by that. I decided to try their Joey's Favorite. I was quite impressed that it didn't take very long for them to hand me my pizza. They even provide a side condiment rack. This rack included fresh red pepper flakes, fresh parmesan cheese, and a couple of things that unfortunately I can't remember what they were. So I picked up my first slice of pizza, which I was very pleased that it wasn't too hot. You know how sometimes that first piece of pizza, you bite into it and it burns your mouth, this wasn't the case, the temperature was perfect. Only one thing popped into my head when I took that first bite of my pizza. Omg, this is the best pizza I have had in years. (and no, I'm not in my twenties, I'm 60 years old). The dough of the pizza had a pleasant crunch to it, not too soft, but not overdone either. Perfect! My second slice, I added the red pepper flakes and Parmesan cheese. A definite plus that both the pepper flakes and the cheese were fresh. Made this Fantastic Pizza even better. What surprised me, is that I was able to eat all six pieces. As you can tell, I was very glad that I stopped here. The food, the staff, the entire experience was great. If you're ever driving through Saline, I suggest you stop in and have one of these wonderful pizzas. I hear also that they're Smash Burgers are top notch as well. Check out the review on YouTube on the Detroit Food review Channel. (No, I am not affiliated with that channel). The only thing that I would suggest is if you're going to stop there, check out their hours first, since currently they don't open until 4:00 p.m. (for now). Great job Drop Top Pizza. I will...
Read moreI dropped in with my son for a smash burger. I have heard that theirs are very good. We ordered a margarita pizza, an olive burger, strawberry milkshake, fried artichokes, and a Bittburger pils.
There is free parking located in the back of the restaurant. The ambiance is clean, but a bit too sterile and a bit too bright.
Our server was excellent and attentive. The drinks were very good. My beer glass was clean (sadly, many places serve beer in semi clean glasses these days). The artichokes were excellent, and the lemon aioli was fresh and delicious. The pizza was good, but it lacked a bit of the crunch I expected from the D3 style. It needs more olive oil in the pan and more cheese along the pan's edge. The olive burger was good, but the burger patties were a bit too dry and bordering on burned. Smash burgers are fantastic when done well. So many places overcook the patty attempting to get nice lacing on the edge of the patty. More often than not, smash burgers are overcooked. This place suffered from that exact scenario.
We were seated at a two top. When the pizza arrived, they set up that tall pizza holder thing in the middle of the table. We were really cramped for space, and we could barely move. It detracted from the experience a bit.
$84 for two people seems a bit on the high end for two entrees, two drinks, and...
Read moreExcellent restaurant in downtown Saline. Here is a review of my meal on 12/7/24. Dipsticks: Excellent cheese bread. Really delicious. Served with pizza sauce or ranch. The ranch has a lot of dill in it. Michigan Olive Smashburger: Outstanding burger. Great crust on the burger. House-made potato buns help to make the burger even better. Don't skip the burger if you think this is just a "pizza" joint. Next time I will try the onion burger. Detroit-Style pizza: My initial thought was this is like the best possible version of a Jet's pizza IF Jet's was made with care and better ingredients. It's a very solid pizza. Sauce is on top and is a little chunky. I prefer a smoother texture. Also, I am not sure what their cheese blend is, but I prefer the classic brick cheese of the Buddy's, Loui's, Cloverleaf original Detroit-style pizzas. To me, that heavy brick cheese is an essential characteristic of the genre. Mackinac Island Shake: This was the biggest surprise. This was the BEST shake I have ever enjoyed in my life. Seriously, THE best. The creamy, smooth texture and mouth feel was like no other. This is a must try. I don't know how they get the texture so perfect - it's just incredible.
So, overall this restaurant is a hit, and will hit the spot when you're in the mood for pizza, burgers, shakes and appetizers! Highly...
