It's very old-school. There's no hot food (besides gas-station style hot dogs). There's no indoor dining, and since the pandemic started, they've stacked their picnic tables to discourage outdoor dining. The exterior has none of the modern facade of newer DQs; it's just a small, cinder-block building right next a major road.
There's a certain charm to that, though. There's something enjoyable about sitting on a bench in golden hour watching cars go by, noisy and sometimes smelly though they may be. This place feels like a remnant of a time when Saline was just a small, rural town, not the growing, suburban city it now is.
Growing up here, I've had friends who worked at Dairy Queen. It was always customary to go here after a band concert or sporting event. On beautiful summer evenings, you're likely to run into someone you know. Yes, it's part of a chain, but it doesn't feel like it, in some of the bad ways and in all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDO NOT GO HERE. I suggest seeking another DQ location. Ordered a Small Mint Oreo blizzard, someone with me ordered a Brownie Batter Blizzard. We are both not served correctly. Hers was a Reeseās something that they insisted was the brownie batter, and mine was given a mint Oreo, sour patch kid blizzard It was disgusting. As soon as I got down to the cup (so maybe 4 bites) you could see the goo and other ingredients from the sour patch kid blizzard on the cup and incorporated in the ice cream. The two flavors DO NOT mix and are disgusting together. So I went back in to ask for a remake and was told they were unable to remake it since I āate that muchā. Mind you I had about 4 bites, down to the cup. So I suggested they clean their utensils between making orders as the product was absolutely disgusting, then threw it away, highly disappointed and disgusted. Not sure Iāll be returning here if they canāt stand by...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis has been a favorite of ours for years but we wonāt be coming back after this evening ā few customers wearing masks. Adults and children hollering to each other across the parking lot With out masks while older patrons Masked up and tried to avoid the crush. 30 softball players running in over the back hill then gathering in the parking lot pressing up against those waiting in line ā again no masks and no social distancing. This was a health risk for sure. It looked like Harpers in East Lansing before their serious Covid outbreak. Owners or health department should do something ASAP or Saline will have a much...
