My husband and I are avid seafood and pasta lovers, so when a friend brought us the crab cake egg rolls from Brew River, we were beyond impressed. They were AMAZING and left us eager to visit the restaurant ourselves. On our first visit, I ordered the Seafood Alfredo and the Surf & Turf. Unfortunately, the Seafood Alfredo was incredibly bland—so much so that I had to take it home and "fix it up" to make it more enjoyable. Not everyone can nail Alfredo sauce, so I decided to give Brew River the benefit of the doubt and another chance.
What initially drew us back was the restaurant’s great vibe—the music, friendly staff, and beautiful outdoor scenery made for a welcoming experience. On my birthday (11/23), we returned and opted for the lunch special: snow crab legs with steamed shrimp and a shared portion of crab mac & cheese (the portion is huge, perfect for sharing). Sadly, the food was disappointing again.
The crab mac & cheese was, once more, absolutely bland with no flavor. The shrimp hadn’t been cleaned, which is unacceptable for any seafood restaurant. The crab legs were unseasoned—something as simple as Old Bay would have made a world of difference. Even the butter for dipping was just melted butter—no garlic, no seasoning, no effort.
It’s clear that this is not a restaurant for true seafood lovers. The food lacks love, care, and flavor. It feels as though the recipes are robotic and the chef is simply going through the motions, serving mediocrity on a plate. For a restaurant that should pride itself on seafood, the experience was deeply disappointing.
The only redeeming qualities were the crab cake egg rolls and the muffins served when we were seated. Those two items were genuinely good, but they aren’t enough to save the rest of the meal—or the restaurant as a whole. Food should be a labor of love; it’s a universal language that brings people together to create memories and enjoy shared moments. Brew River failed to deliver on this most basic promise.
I’m giving two stars—one for the egg rolls and one for the muffins—but unfortunately, we won’t be returning. To the owners and managers: If you’re serious about being in this business, take a step back and rethink your approach. Food isn’t just about filling plates—it’s about creating an experience worth remembering. Right now, Brew River is missing the...
Read moreI went to this establishment multiple times. On country night, college night, karaoke night. Today on Friday August 4th we decided to come and experience Friday night. And yes it’s usually, from my understanding, more Black and beautiful people. Like any club, I’m asked my ID and expected to be scanned to ensure the safety is maintained throughout the night…HOWEVER they PHYSICALLY frisk you as if you are a criminal. The lady patted me down then proceeded to take her hands and slide themBETWEEN AND UNDER MY BREATS! I felt so violated!! And they didn’t even look inside of my purse! I understand the woman was doing her job.. but I felt so violated. I went to management and told her my concerns with this and I put in a suggestion that they should invest in metal detectors. She said that is not reliable! Huh? SO TSA AND COURT ROOMS ARE WHAT… unreliable? So instead, you have some physically touch me in places I do not want to be touched! I felt unheard. I understand the “day and age” but we all are not criminals… I really just wanted to have a great time with my husband. And what really just sucks I NEVER EVER HAD THIS DONE ON ANY OTHER NIGHT! I’ve been to brew river on country night and karaoke. Also I’ve been to clubs in multiple cities, no one has EVER felt in between my breast! Not ever at the airport! The manager explained that they do not have security during the week and those events are open to all age groups. I get it.. but I don’t. On a majority black night it is flooded with security. I’m ok with the extra security… but please invest in scanners and /metal detectors. As a woman I felt so violated..and as a black woman I felt discriminated against. And voicing my concerns to management didn’t help. She was very defensive instead of understanding. I was hoping she would say, I will take it to upper management and discuss this. Etc. But her and a brother behind her refused to hear how this felt so demeaning. I will never go to this establishment again. NEVER. I will definitely consider pursuing discrimination suit considering this not done on “other” nights. For the beautiful black ppl that work there and the others that are apart of OUR community I pray u make a stand! I WILL NEVER BRING MY DOLLARS BACK TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT. Me and my husband left.. we did not stay. We enjoyed our time with one...
Read moreWe have been coming here for the past 15 years. Tonight was terrible service, a waitress that kept reminding us that we needed to leave soon for a private party coming in, and a bouncer with a major disrespectful attitude towards all females. As my sister communicated with him that she was going to grab my wallet and keys to hand to me, he ‘checked her out’ and said that was fine but then gave her a hard time when she returned. We confronted the manager and the general manager over the altercation and attitude of the bouncer. Neither manager or GM could offer an “excuse” good enough for the attitude of the bouncer at the side door, named Marlin. The only thing they could say was “he may be new.” The bouncer not only got an attitude with my sister, but also with me. He referred to one of us as a “heavy lady” and sat with his feet up on a trash can while making other condescending remarks towards both females. The manager said the bouncer would be dealt with later, as well as the general manager said he would be “talked to.” The bouncer continued to mouth off towards us, as well as the manager herself, while the other bouncers insisted that he shut his mouth. I have never witnessed such disrespectful behavior in a work environment in my life. He was rude, condescending, disrespectful and unkind towards me, my sister, boyfriend and the manager herself. However, none of this was dealt with besides the manager passing me his business card saying “come in again later and we will put the carpet down for you.” I never expect special treatment, but only equal respect. After 15 years of visiting brew river, I will not be back. They clarified their overall character tonight. Also...to continue to say to me that they are patting people down head to toe due to it being a “special night” because of UMES graduates visiting...when they do not pat people down any other night...that also speaks to me as discrimination. One of the most unpleasant experiences I have had in a long time. It is unfortunate and I will no longer support...
