Excellent spot, in a lively revitalized area of downtown Salt Lake! From a neighbor who has driven by this property hundreds of times (before it was Loki), they could not have done a better job in rejuvenating the space. Thank you for what you have brought to the neighborhood!
The interior is beautifully renovated, and while the crowds can be large, it seemingly still cultivates a peaceful coffee shop atmosphere. It seems these days that coffee shops that are well-kept and offer exceptional coffee can't shake the 'pretentious' label; however, don't fall for it! They offer truly exceptional pour-overs with coffees from one of the Valley's best roasters, Idle Hands. Guest beans also seem to be selected by an experienced coffee buyer; the last time I was in, it was a coffee from George Howell. This is a real treat for Salt Lake!
The food is good, the selection is limited and sells out quickly, but this doesn't count against them in my book. In fact, I would be happy to see them stick to the quality over quantity philosophy that is the clear trajectory the owners have set out for.
Thanks for bringing this special place and excellent coffee to this neighborhood. I look forward to my next excuse to stop in!
Lastly, I brought my kids here on my initial visit, and while I'm sure the broader Gen. Z crowd wasn't thrilled, the staff could not have been more kind and accommodating of the silly requests required when dining with a 3 and...
Read moreThe coffee comes in one size: tiny. It’s okay though because it tastes like nothing anyway. I ordered a latte with honey cinnamon and coconut caramel. It tasted like nothing but coffee with a splash of milk. I had to add honey and cinnamon at the station. Other drink in the order was an Americano with almond milk, pumpkin and vanilla. Both were ordered hot, but one was delivered to the pick up iced. It also tasted like nothing but black coffee and almond milk. The syrups were made in house but maybe they shouldn’t be because they were flavorless. The barista didn’t pay attention to any step in the ordering process or answer any question we had, as this was our first time here, (and definitely last) other than to let us know about the house made syrups. I had to repeat my question four times while she was talking to another worker about a customer that came in earlier. I wish we had left at that point. The only bright point of the visit was the miso brown butter chocolate chip cookie. It’s as pretentious as it sounds and tastes like a slightly off chocolate chip cookie. All in all, if you want to feel like you’re getting coffee in a movie set where there’s no actual flavor in the cups, this is the place. If you want an actual cup of coffee, go to Tinkers down the road. At least there’s cats, good people, good service, and...
Read moreEverything about Loki is absolutely amazing. For starters, their coffee is amazing and hands down, the best in SLC (frankly, even outside of SLC)! If you’re looking for a strong coffee that also tastes fantastic, this is your spot. I’ve tried a lot of their coffees and while I typically don’t like “sweet” coffees, their coconut carmel latte is SO good (it’s not too sweet, not too coconut-y 😉)! In addition, their staff is just awesome. They are so welcoming, kind, and helpful. I also appreciate how almost every time I stop in (which is often) both of the owners are always seen working alongside the team in a collaborative and supportive way! Lastly, I just love the atmosphere of the shop and all the little details that went into making Loki what it is - from the layout and design to the way they support other local businesses through pop-ups, hosting events, or selling their food is awesome and appreciated. They also know how to pick the BEST vendors in SLC! Truly love Loki Coffee & the vibe it’s creating within...
