Hidalgo's West Restaurant — Restaurant in San Angelo

I've eaten a dish restaurant numerous times in the past and this time was no different. This restaurant is always clean, the staff is always courteous and always checking to make sure that I have everything that I need. This particular time I took a friend out there for her birthday. This was the restaurant she wanted to go to. I was absolutely thrilled when I walked in to see the sign say that they were serving Caldo. This just happens to be my favorite. We were seated immediately brought chips and salsa asked if we wanted the white sauce I asked for a large queso and and then I asked if they were still serving the caldo and was told yes they were. I asked for beef caldo with flour tortillas and an extra side of rice. My friend's place their orders. It didn't take long for our orders to show up and I was pleasantly thrilled to find that my caldo was exactly everything I expected it to be and more. My friends thoroughly enjoyed their meals we even had to take home some in to-go boxes. When I checked out and paid my bill I noticed a little stand set up by the register with Mexican candy on it. I love the coconut candy and ask the price of one of the candies but it was a little more than what I had with me in cash so I put it back. The young lady who cashed me out told me to go ahead and get the bar candy that she was buying it for me. That touched me very deeply and humbled me. You don't find many places where the staff are that kind and that courteous. It's because of that kind of treatment by the staff that I continue to go back to this particular restaurant and recommend it if someone from out of town asks where they can get good Mexican food. There was about 11 of us and we went out for dinner we are from Abilene Texas so I've never been here before well when we first walked in and told the lady at the front I guess she was a hostess that we had 11 people, she kind of rolled her eyes like she gave us a vibe that we were too much of an inconvenience because we arrived around 8 and the restaurant closes at 9 so that very first impression wasn't a very good one... but as we sat down our waiter was very helpful and very nice they had our food ready within minutes so we were very impressed at that the rice was too salty but everything else was delicious we had a great dinner and we were gone by 9:15 we gave the waiter a great tip because he had a good attitude... but like I said the food and the presentation was...

My brother, sister in law and myself, visited this establishment on 11/13/21 around 6pm. The outside had trash everywhere and once we entered the building, there was trash on the floors and tables with uneaten food that had not been cleaned. Evidently, their food was not up to par either. We were seated at a booth with trash still under our booth. The server was friendly but our food arrived cold. Not lukewarm, but cold. They were not busy, so no excuse for any of this. I won't go back. I recommend the restaurant on Bryant. Always clean, food is served quickly, hot and delicious! Not so at the Sherwood...
