Safe place to grab a bite. Choices are QDOBA MEXICAN FOOD, SLIM CHICKENS, CHARLEYS PHILLY STEAKS, SUBWAY SARKU JAPAN, BOBA + ACAI BUBBLE TEAM & SMOOTHI CAFE, and Starbucks.. Plenty of seating, great atmosphere, and shopping at the AAFES STORES and vendors.

We finally got a chance to eat at Sarku Japan at AAFES Food Court in Fort Sam, as you can see from the pictures the food is well presented and they served a lot. I thought that we would have food leftover, but it tasted so good we could help but finish it.

Probably one of the worst Base food courts in the nation, which is a shame since Fort Sam is overall so iconic. Let’s start with Ming. The Chinese food is embarrassing, flavorless and most likely reheated from a frozen bag. The fried rice is dull and the egg rolls don’t have any real seasoning. Panda Express would be a Michelin Star restaurant if it were compared to this. Sarku Japan is just as bad with fried dumplings that are chewy in such a bad way. The chicken teriyaki bento is over sauces and way too salty. It’s connected to Ming so it’s easy to assume they are buying their products from the same Sam’s Club frozen section. Then there’s Charlie’s Philly Steaks which I would avoid if you’re from the east coast. They even have mushrooms in their cheesesteaks and other protein options. This might be a good thing if it tasted amazing, sadly it does not. Qdoba is an interesting choice but let’s be honest here it is not Mexican food and it’s annoying that it claims to be. I can’t really say anything bad about the food itself it’s just not Mexican. More like what an American from the western states would try to claim as Mexican. There are signs throughout the food court encouraging non military to eat there in case they thought they couldn’t but the reality is the food is subpar and not worth the disappointment. Here’s a radical idea, put decent quality food in the court and you will see an improvement in patronage. It’s terrible our service members are forced to have these horrible options thrust upon them. Do...

Had Lunch at Slim Chickens, Not a good experience.. I have eaten at other Slim Chickens and it was very good... But not this one.. Not only was my order wrong but the 3 orders ahead of me wasn't correct.. When I pointed out I had the wrong order the counter person passing out the orders attempted to get it correct.. But missed the details of the order.. I asked for my wings extra crispy and she told me cook would make them extra crispy as I watch them take my wings from batch that just came up...Yeahhh not crispy like I order.. So rather then having the cook get my wings off the floor to complete my order I took them not to cause a problem but trust me I will not eat here anymore.. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU...

Met a Sailer here... Enjoyed my wings at the chicken place and my husband enjoyed his Kim chi Philly steak with no bread... At the other place.. so my score is on those 2 places.. Wanted the Japanese... it looked SO GOOD.... BUT.... Disappointed the they would not sell me a meal w meat, no sides without keeping price for an entire meal ... For a person eating Carnivore... I don't want rice, noodles, veggies or egg rolls... So I moved on to a different store... Might want to consider your policy as not...
