I would not recommend this location and this hotel, but for the issue with the thin passage doors. The individual in the room turned on his radio at 5:30am loud enough to clearly hear laying in the bed. There is no place that a good night sleep isn't worth going somewhere else to get accomplished. It was also an issue that the hot water was gone about 9:00pm through 9:45pm. My spouse and I had to wash up in the sink with cold water. I previously traveled quite a bit for work to many hotels in various areas. I found this specific location after speaking with some military buddies about where to stay in this area. I selected this location as a result of finding a room that was available with a kitchen over the holidays. We were able to get through the front gates and arrive at the hotel within a few minutes of leaving the highway. There is ample handicap parking spaces in front of the hotel. There are carts inside the front doors that you can use to bring in luggage. The front desk had a very friendly young lady who greeted us and got us checked in to the hotel. Breakfast is served in the mornings from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. There is a decent size seating area that will enable most of the guests to be socially distanced while eating their food. At the front door, there is a lending locker that is available with small appliances for the guest. I noticed there was a laundry room that is available free of charge but the guest have to provide the soap to wash their own clothes. Walking to our rooms, we observed that the entire area was very neat, clean and well kept. We walked through the front areas to look at the pool and the gym. We were impressed that even though the pool was closed it was very clean. The gym was clean and orderly when we looked inside with no machines out of order. We entered our room to find that it was very neat and clean. Interesting enough. We found a small card in our room from the housekeeping clean team. They signed their names and assured us that the room was cleaned to set standards, which appeared to be correct.
After finding that the hotel appears to be a decent facility, I came to realize that the door to an adjacent room was way too thin. The guest was rather loud on a cell phone and he could be heard as I stood in my bathroom with the door shut. I thought he had opened the connecting door. This is a bad thing and needs to be addressed. I went to the front desk to ask if they could call or contact the guest about the issue since it was 9:30pm at night. The last thing I want is the guest on the phone constantly broadcasting the conversation to my room all through the night. We did ask for a blanket which was promptly delivered within 10 minutes of us asking for the additional cover by...
Read moreWe are PCSing dealing with a very stressful cross-country move from California to Florida. My wife and I drove two cars separately, along with our toddler. We drove 8 hours and arrived very late at JSBA-Fort Sam Houston for lodging at IHG around 2100-2200. We got sent to Candlewood Suites, which took almost an hour after checking in at one building and going to another. This situation is the last thing we need after a long drive, and we need restful sleep for another 8-hour drive the next day. We had left behind an iPad in a rush to get on the road again without realizing it. We only realized it was missing once we were already 8 hours away at our next stop. We should have been notified it was left behind earlier by either housekeeping or the front desk, so we could drive back to grab it or get it sent out sooner. Today, it has already been almost a week since Stephanie at the front desk held our iPad hostage. We called on a Saturday night, and the front desk assured us they would send it out. Following up three days later, we called around 1400-1500 to express our frustration. Stefanie at the front desk had yet to learn where our iPad was, nor did she seem to care to help. She was not only rude but had a passive-aggressive tone and was very quick to blame housekeeping or the night shift. Instead of blaming others, help guests get their belongings back. We called back later, around 1600-1700; Stefanie said they could not send it out because it was the end of the day and would not be sent out until the next day. She continues to give us a bogus tracking number with no location of shipment details, even though we were already charged to ship it out. She said it could not be sent out, even though the UPS store across the street closes at 1900 and FedEx closes at 2000. We made another call the next day, and the hotel manager, Ray stated that Stephanie would send it out and notify us when it did. They could not give us a date, and yet on the next day and she has not done so. Another day has gone by, and still waiting for word. No one wants to forget something valuable behind. Still, we could not trust anyone we spoke to genuinely wanted to help get our iPad back safely and promptly. Hotel staff should be professional, welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, patient, and make all guests a priority. It has not been easy dealing with this hotel’s staff. Guests should not be treated as an inconvenience. Very disheartening to know that military families PCSing are not taken care of at this...
