If you are BLACK please do not patronize this business. They are extremely racist and unapologetic about it. Last month , I arrived to this business 1 am and made an order for fried dumplings and I also ordered rice. I asked for them to pack my dumplings to go because I knew after eating my rice I would be full. Around 1:45 am I asked the patron to please give me extra soy sauce to go because I did not feel as though the amount of soy sauce being given was suitable for the amount of dumplings they gave. With much attitude she replied “ The kitchen is closed.” When I insisted that I wanted more soy sauce as the establishment was still open only then did she go by the register ( not even to the kitchen ) and pack an extra soy sauce. I tried to overlook the lack of hospitality and customer service and chuck it up to it being close to closing. Tonight I attempted to give the business another chance. When I came in , the same patron was there ( possibly the owner ) and I only ordered fried dumplings and tea. I asked her to leave the menu so I can place another order after my dumplings and she took it. My tea spilled and I asked for napkins and when I asked for more napkins she replied “ there’s one on your table” . I expressed that my tea had spilled , therefore I needed more. She brought only 2 napkins and never attempted to clean the tea. I watched her ask everyone else if they were okay and completely ignored me. (I was the only black person present). Upon leaving , she stated “ next time you must pay cash if the order is under $20” . Mind you , I had every intention of placing a 2nd order but she took the menu even though I had asked her not to. I then said to her why is this the 2nd time that I’m coming out and experiencing odd treatment that’s completely different than the treatment I’ve observed her give to others around me. She then accused me of having an issue with “Asian people” . I told her I’m from New York and some of my best friends are Asian and I’ve lived in Asian . I have no issue with Asians . I have every issue with the mistreatment I received. I expressed I felt singled out as a black customer and that the treatment was extremely poor. She insisted that I “threatened” her and that she tried to provide better customer service this time by giving me extra soy sauce. I’m an entire business owner and I have a career in healthcare. I’m very educated and I know when there’s a CLEAR difference in the way I’m being treated simply because I am black and being vocal about ill treatment. She even went so far as to justify her not wanting to give me soy sauce to go last time because she was about to close. However , I watched her give white customers extra soy sauce to go with no hesitation that asked for it minutes before I did. As a black woman , I’m extremely against patronizing this business because in all reality calling me “a threat” to your establishment because you offer poor customer service in itself is discriminatory and racist. It’s aligned with the stereotypical mentality that when a black woman voices dismay she’s “angry” and that’s something that I will never subscribe to. Never again ! If you’re black DO...
Read moreNever had a chance to try their food as we left due to extremely poor service. Now I read a review where they stated they were getting yelled at because they didn't leave enough tip. We were getting yelled at because we asked to leave one ingredient out. We recently moved to the area and wanted to find a good Korean restaurant we can call our go to for Korean food. We go in and ask the man for to-go menus. He turns around and directs the lady who gives us the menu. We looked at the lady ready to place our order. She then tells us no to-go orders. If we were told that in first place we would have left. After having waited and starving, we just decided to stay. When the man takes our order my bf asked for no onions on his. No problem. I asked him what vegetables were in topokki. He starts to list "green onions, white onions" and then starts to mention some others in Korean. I asked him if it could be made without any onions. I can tell he becomes angry and starts talking in Korean. Not sure if he thinks I'm Korean and understood, but I'm not. I didn't want any problems so told him fine it's OK I will take as is. He walks back and throws the menu on the counter. I started to contemplate whether or not we should stay. We decided to leave to avoid any further confrontation and before they started our orders. As we're heading out I tell the man it's okay, thank you. My bf who was behind me politely informs him we were just going to go. He then starts yelling at us in Korean! For the way we were being treated, we could have easily left without saying anything. No one has ever responded so negatively when I asked if they could customize an order. Just say no, I would have been perfectly fine! This place really needs to work on their customer service. We will never go back. This place...
Read moreWorst Korean food I've had in a long time. What makes this such a bad experience is that I can usually find at least one redeeming quality in a restaurant, this often offsets any shortcomings. For example the food being mediocre but the price being low, or bad service but delicious food, and so on. Unfortunately at Arirang it has very little to offer. First off, it has no illuminated sign. In fact no outside lights whatsoever. Making it difficult to see at night. It's certainly a hole-in-the-wall, inside and outside, but that never puts me off. The food can be described with two words: Over Salted and Too Oily. More so than any other Korean restaurant around town. We had six people and all of our dishes were like this. You might think the food was cheap? Guess again. Six entrees and one appetizer: total bill just over $115, you do the math. To top it off I was surprised that the waitress collected my signed and completed receipt (including tip amount) while we were all still sitting there. Not the end of the world but I must say that's the first time I've ever had that happen at a restaurant. This isn't high-end dining so the complete imbalance of the dump location and bad food that's overly priced, left all six of us feeling unanimously disappointed. Perhaps the only benefit out of all of this (if you want to call it that) is we all learned where NOT to go for Korean food next time. Nevertheless, I give it two stars because I love Korean food in general and although it was the worst Korean I've had, overall there are worse restaurants...
