It was clean with friendly staff and smelled wonderful and that's where it ends. I commented to my wife that it was a hefty amount of food and if it tasted like it smelled..woooohoo--spoiler alert...it didn't. We had been craving some decent Asian food for a while, we visited Tokyo Express on Walzem 2 weeks ago which was...mmm okay not bad but not great. My food experience at Beijing House made them seem Michelin starred taste wise. I went in 12/28/2020 and ordered (to go) pork dumplings $5.99 (pot stickers 3 cooking options-steamed-deep fried-pan fried), spring rolls 4-$4.99 and House Fried Rice $10.99 (their "specialty" w/ chicken, beef and shrimp). 1) The dumplings were to be pan fried, the bottoms were lightly browned on most but 2 of them were actually caramelized on the bottom as they should be.. the filling was ample and actually tasty but the lack of proper caramelization meant that by the time I got home (2.5miles away..not a big trip) the ones that had just been briefly put in the pan were gummy and and texturally bleechhh by the time they arrived at home. The spring rolls were decent, a little oily (I'll credit that to being in a to go bag lightly steaming on the drive back) but decent flavor. The dumplings and spring rolls were a comparative feast .. it went downhill fast with the opening of the House Fried Rice (with egg roll.. also not bad..pretty decent)... OK.. This is where I level well earned criticism. My wife asked me to taste it (we were splitting it.. one taking their half and passing it to the other).. and asked me .. "Is this flavorless to you too? Have I suddenly acquired Covid?" It was oversteamed rice with that bad metallic taste that screams "I have been sitting in the hotel pan for a while until the cook noticed me to use" that had a little color like someone added a packet of brown coloring..no actual flavor, very little seasoning.. The chicken was cooked, steamed like..no caramelization no seasoning, the beef was literally steamed grey w/ (you guessed it) no caramelization and no seasoning and the shrimp half were overcooked the other just right and you guessed it.. steamed, no caramelization and no seasoning..none..nada.. zip..zilch. It was literally SO flavorless I added untold amounts of soy sauce and Thai Jugo sauce (which you can see in the pic the color diffs in the rice).. that we both had maybe 7-10 bites each and you know that utter disappointment that just takes your appetite away? Yeah, that.. I do NOT like trashing them (I was hoping we had found a decent place very close to our house) but for $23.78 and charging $11 for your house "specialty".. you damn sure better do it right.. I made a grilled cheese sandwich to fill up after that. The included photos of it are at 1am (just as I am writing this).. as you can see the rice is pale colored, as is the chicken, the beef etc... I took another taste... and it's bad when the bean sprouts in there overpower the taste of the rice.. Will I eat there again? Highly doubtful, I may stop in and get some spring rolls, maybe in the distant future but as for now...color me very unimpressed and disappointed. So tomorrow off to the Asian super store to get some fried rice seasoning packets and redo it at home as a...
Read moreNever coming back and I would suggest others not to because when they make a mistake on your food they will argue with you that the “chef said he didn’t” and insinuate that you are lying.
So I’ve been coming here for about 7 years I was such a loyal customer I even know their number by heart the only number I knew by heart! My mom, boyfriend and friends have always thought their food is nasty so even when the crew goes to other restaurants I would still come order from Beijing House. But they are so cheap they don’t give a damn about loyal customers who never give them problems.
Here’s why I am not coming back. A few days ago I had decided to try something new on the menu so I ordered their Combo Pad Thai which is supposed to come with SHRIMP, beef, chicken, and noodles. I also ordered an egg roll (unlike other Chinese restaurants they make you order one separately) and 3 cheese rangoons. My plate came out to over $20! Now I live all the way out in medical center but work on north east side at Methodist as an RN. I never have enough time to eat at work so I ordered me a plate with plans to eat it that evening when I went home. I picked it up at 12. Then got home around 5pm. When I opened my plate I noticed nothing but noodles and a tiny tiny bit of chicken & beef and there was no shrimp in the plate at all. When I called and told them (remind you I have never complained before and they know this). They had the nerve to argue with me 1. I picked up the plate hours ago 2. Their chef said he did pick shrimp. 2. I need to bring the plate back all the way from medical center in 5 o clock traffic to prove to them that I didn’t eat the plate. So much unprofessionalism! Your chef makes many plates a day but he remembers exactly putting the 3 measly shrimp you give to people on there? He remembers making exactly my plate? Also I don’t care when I ordered the food! I am dealing with sick patients all day and can only eat when I get home why should I have to explain that? When I told them it would be an inconvenience to drive all the way back over a mistake they made and charged me 20 for. They said “well Walmart doesn’t let you get a return without brining product back”. Since we are talking about companies, let’s talk about food ones! If I were to call any other restaurant and explain that they messed up my food they would gladly tell me “we are sorry mame you can come back when you get a chance and we will remake your order.” They don’t make you bring the food back to PROVE to them. That is very petty and unprofessional. I even offered to FaceTime one of them to prove I didn’t even touch the plate and how no shrimp and barely any other meat was on the plate. Which is silly on my part now thinking back but I was highly offended that they would think someone has time to call them and lie about 3 shrimp! They also had attitudes would put the phone down without asking me to hold on. No budging at all. So I just ended driving all the way across town bringing their plate back with EVERYTHING (except the 3 shrimp they forgot) on the plate and in the bag. The sauces were even still there! Then I asked for my money back. I would say I would tell everyone I know not to go back but no one else liked their...
