dont know when they opened. I have been in San Antonio for 20 years. I was told by someone when i asked "where can i find good mexican food" the reply "good mexican is kind of where you find it" which i found to be true.. i found it next to my dentist office cliose to the post office across from Walgreens walking distance from where i lived!!! First noticed them when i wondered "why is the parking lot so full🤔 and saw restaurant and figured i will check it out after i get my teeth cleaned😈nothing outstanding about it but when i went in i judged 🙁but decided to give the food a try because it was very clean and the peole ,so nice and kind hearted. After i ate WOW delicious i have tried other places only to be upset. nobody makes migas the way they do!!!! I dont know how long they were there before i noticed but i have been going to Dr Coverts dentist office for the last 20 years and i am happy that i decided to try. I just hate they close so early🙁 Try for the first time during week. The weekends are crazy busy but for them i pray business is always busy!!!!😁 I have recommed others who were satisfied too. The food, prices, service and people outstanding. When i get impatient bcause i dont want to wait and eat other places i am the who pays the price and suffer frustration and have to trow it awaw still hungry and very mad at myself. Go and they will not disappoint you, tell them Elizabeth...

⭐ 1 Star Very Disappointed – A Favorite Restaurant Gone Downhill

We’ve been loyal customers of El Buen Gusto for years, and it truly breaks my heart to say this, but our last visit was a complete disaster. Since the change in ownership and management, everything we loved about this place—especially the amazing chilaquiles and great service—has disappeared.

On our recent visit, we waited over 30 minutes just for someone to take our order, and the food took even longer to arrive. During that time, we witnessed three separate tables walk out due to the lack of service and disorganization. There were only 8 customers in the restaurant, so it’s not like it was overwhelming—it was simply poor management.

The new owner (a woman who seems to be in charge) had a noticeably bad attitude, even getting upset when we politely asked for a coffee refill. It’s clear that hospitality and customer service are not a priority under the new leadership.

I genuinely don’t understand why someone would take over a restaurant without the proper experience or passion for the business. It’s sad to say, but this was our last visit. El Buen Gusto used to be a hidden gem with true Mexican flavor and warmth—now, it’s just another place that lost its soul.

I sincerely hope they reflect and realize that running a restaurant requires more than just owning a space—it takes heart, attention to detail, and respect for...

Literally, the best mole I have ever had in my life. I am O B S E S S E D. I brought this home for dinner for my sister who’s lived in multiple parts of South America, and my family from Tucson. We have eaten SO much mole as a family. At various price points. And this ranks among the best. All of us were stunned. As far as myself and my husband are concerned this was THE best.

Two of the many people at this point I have bought this for said they didn’t even like mole before they had this. Which usually would make you wonder about its authenticity- I promise you, it’s authentic and incredible.

We have had other bits and pieces and I love it. The staff is kind and lovely, the food is thoughtful and authentic and never overly greasy. It’s perfect. And it’s NOT Tex mex. As a Latina woman who used to live in an area known for its incredible Mexican food, I am just so stoked beyond stoked that none of their food is smothered in that fake “queso” half the places here are obsessed with.

I cannot recommend them enough. El Buen Gusto is officially the one place so far that I HAVE to bring people by when they visit. Please, give them a shot. You won’t be...

Do yourself a favor and give them a visit, they have the best chilaquiles in the city. In my opinion, what separates El Buen Gusto from every other Jalisco or breakfast spot is the quality. They very clearly make everything from scratch and it shows in the flavor. I would compare their food more to visiting someone's home who is a really good chef, compared to visiting a breakfast spot. It is family run, with the parents working the back and their adult children running the front, and the service is always friendly and fast. If you find yourself in the area during their hours and want to have an amazing meal, I highly recommend you stop by. Edit: they changed ownership and are not as good as they were. The family that owned it sold it. Now they use store bought beans.

I love these family owned small restaurants. This was my first time going, and I got a few different kinds of breakfast tacos to go. I've been all over San Antonio and had some really good tacos, and I must say that El Buen Gusto is top 10 in the city in terms of taste to cost ratio! Although the interior is small and quaint, it is nicely decorated with traditional Mexican art work, and feels like your abuela's kitchen. Very friendly interaction with the gentleman behind the counter. He took my order over the phone, and was very nice when I showed up to pick it up. I'll be going back to enjoy a nice sit down breakfast next time.
