Mar. 27, 2023: My husband suggested we have dinner @fishcitygrill Northwoods tonight. We were able to make it for happy hour, which ends at 6pm.
Dad had Pink Lemonade, and my husband and I both had Hurricane! We had the East Coast Oysters as an appetizer. Then Dad and my husband shared the bowl of Clam Chowder. Dad and I shared one of the specials - Blackened Costa Rican Mahi. I ate everything! My husband had the Pick 2 combo with catfish, cod, fries, and salad. His salad was so good I think I ate half!
Liana was a great server and the food was great! Come and check it out!
Nov.2, 2022: Last night was a good night @fishcitygrill Northwoods. Xavier was our server and he quickly got our happy hour orders in time. Happy hour ends at 6pm!
We had a dozen East Coast Oysters, I had the Thyme Gimlet and my husband had the Moscow Mule. Happy hour treats! Dad had a cup of Clam Chowder and my husband had a cup of Crab Bisque. I had off the menu Shrimp Scampi with cole slaw and mashed potatoes. Dad and my husband shared the Grilled Barramundi and Blackened Shrimp. I couldn't finish all my shrimp so had a little leftover. We were so full we had no room for dessert.
This location has been more consistent now with their food quality. Service is always on point. Come check it out!
July 1,2022 - We gave @fishcitygrill at Northwoods another try tonight for dinner. The last visit was less than stellar and we were given $25 gift certificate to give them a second chance. I'm happy to report that our experience today was significantly better.
They also have a new happy hour menu which included oysters and the Tito's Porch Lemonade. The Salvation East Coast Oysters were larger than most that we've had and they were fantastic. I only tasted the mignonette sauce after and should really have it with the oysters next time. Dad had the Pink Lemonade, I had the Tito's Porch Lemonade and my husband had the Michelob Ultra. We all shared the bowl of delicious Crab Bisque. Dad and my husband shared the Pick 3 Combo with cod, shrimp, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. I ordered the Shrimp Linguini which is already off menu. Thankfully, they had the ingredients to make it. Although we were full, we ordered the Key Lime Pie, intending to eat only a couple of bites and taking home the rest. It was so good we ate it all!
Jadyn really helped make the experience better in suggesting Salvation and just taking care of us. Definitely glad we gave it another go!
Feb. 2022 - We've been here a few times and have had a decent experience but today was a miss on several dishes because the chef must have been heavy handed with salting the food. Also, the shrimp linguini which I liked a lot is no longer on the menu.
I had the Citrus Martini to start which seemed to be the only consistent item. My husband had iced tea and my Dad had the rootbeer. i had a cup of the crab bisque, my husband had a side salad and we shared the chargrilled oysters. The oyster I had was quite rubbery. I had the lump crab cake as my entrée and the salad could use some dressing. My husband and Dad shared a pick 3 plate with catfish and 2 orders of the beer battered cod. The cod was decent but the fries were salty.

Read moreI’m not sure why my original review wasn’t posted so I will rewrite it with a follow up. I took my wife out to eat for her birthday. We get to the restaurant and asked to be seated in a booth. We as we were waiting another couple were told it would be a 25 minute wait. They asked for my phone number so they could text me when our booth was ready. I got a beer to pass the time and we went outside to wait our turn. As we waited, another couple came to wait their turn. My phone started ringing and it was a strange area code. I thought it was a spam call so I sent it to voicemail. My wife suggested I call the number because it may have been the restaurant. I called the number and the voice on the other end said she did not call. After a brief explanation of why I called back she said oh it was us. So we go in and the couple who arrived after us walked in just in front of us and were seated in a booth. The hostess started to seat us at a table and I reminded her we’d asked for a booth. She said we don’t have one available and when I pointed out that she sat the other people before us even though they came after us she without hesitation or apology tol me, “well you’ll have to wait for another booth to come available.” So back to waiting we went. If it weren’t for the quality of food we’ve had before we would have left. My issue is with the lack of care or concern and the snide attitude of the hostess. They are the face of the restaurant. The first impression is always important. I won’t be back after this visit. (Update) we ordered their crab meat queso. It was very good. My wife had the crab cake and loved it. I ordered what I thought was fish tacos. Turned out they were burritos. The fish was cold. Not luke warm. Not room temperature but cold. Thank goodness the waitress was awesome. She did everything to make it right. She took it off our bill and she offered me a soup or salad to make up for it. When I declined she settled out bill and brought me a voucher for a free appetizer on our next visit. She was apologetic and courteous so we tipped her almost the amount of what my food cost would have been. Long story short…this visit did not live up to the standard of the reviews here and it’s a shame. We’ve had better experiences here that were opposite of what we...
Read more1st 2 times eating "to go" this place was good/great as meal. Yummy as a takeaway, but I think we’re going to need to eat there one night. Great food.
Edit: Went inside and the place was packed and LOUD.
1st time eating in the restaurant and manager (guessing, he didn't introduce himself or too loud and couldn't hear him) had the staff bring over sample soups that are on the meal and 3 oyster nachos. Oyster Nachos (3) - Probably supposed to be 1 for each of us, but wife and I don't care for oysters, so Mother-in-law (MIL) devoured them and enjoyed them a lot. Sample soups: Roasted Jalapeno, Gumbo, Crab Bisque, Clam Chowder. Roasted Jalapeno - Good Gumbo - Fantastic! MIL LOVED the darken sauce, said it was one of the best she's had outside of LA. Crab Bisque - Sweet, but good. I don't think I could eat a lot of it in 1 sitting. Clam Chowder - Let's just say this is the ultimate winner. However they make this soup, continue making it. Probably the best clam chowder that I've had since visiting San Francisco. If they offered to have the "bowl" as a bread bowl, I probably would have this as a meal.
Me: Blacken Rainbow Trout - YUM! Eat the spinach that comes with it, because that spinach is AMAZING. Little bit of Lemon Basil Rice, spinach and trout on 1 fork and your mouth is going to SING!
Wife: Lobster and shrimp grilled cheese: My wife loves her grilled cheese sandwiches, so this one when she shared a small portion of it with me was a rare occasion. The sandwich was PACKED full of flavor. Wife removed the sriracha, but I think it would have tasted great on the sandwich.
MIL: Gulf Coast Oysters (6) and Shrimp and Grits. Sadly, this was not delivered in the correct order. MIL received the shrimp and grits first. She pushed it to the side until the oysters came out 5-10 mins later. She ate the oysters and enjoyed them. She started to eat the Shrimp and Grits and they were still quite hot and started eating them, but got full. Waitress took off the oysters due to the incorrect delivery of the food.
Overall: Incredible food, great service and Highly recommend going to eat there or as a takeaway. I would give the place a 5-star rating if the noise level...
