On Veterans Day I had to pay for my meal because there was a small sign that said Veterans meal is free after 4 p.m. on Veterans Day. I can tell you that you all pissed off a lot of Veterans on Veterans Day!!! I couldn't even get a Military Discount on Veterans Day even though I went to eat with Family for lunch and freeeal was after 4 p.m. If we wanted a steak or shrimp or something else that was not on display for Veterans to pick from, We had to pay $5 or more extra!!! On Veterans Day you all made so many Veterans pay for their lunch. There were several Veterans in line that didn't have money to pay because they thought they were getting a free meal for Veterans Day!!! But you know what, several Veterans saw that they didn't have money to pay at the register because the sign was so small they didn't see, nor read the sign, so other Veterans stepped up to the plate and helped pitch in so the Veteran was able pay for his/her meal to eat. This Golden Corral is an embarrassment. I saw people take in their f*g dogs in baby carriages to eat inside the restaraunt They were not service dogs, because service dogs are not taken inside a restaraunt in baby carriages with blankets to cover the dog like a baby!!! I paid for my meal and couldn't even get a Military Discount because it was Veterans Day and I couldn't get my free meal, because it was lunch time and the free meal was after 4 p.m. Then there were a lot of food items missing from the menu and we had limited choices to choose from to eat. Did you do this on purpose so you wouldn't lose so much money giving Veterans free meals?? Why were you charging us $5 or more for a damn small dried up steak and pay extra for shrimp??? Because of the way this Golden Corral treated its Veterans on a day to show Veterans love and gratitude, you showed Veterans that you don't give a shit about Veterans. You chose to cut menu corners down and not serve the more expensive items because you were afraid we were going to eat a lot of steaks, shrimp and the other items you charged us extra for. TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT SERVED AND CONTINUE TO SERVE IN OUR GREAT MILITARY, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS GOLDEN CORRAL!!! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM AND DOES NOT CARE ABOUT VETERANS!!!! I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS CERTAIN GOLDEN CORRAL AGAIN!!! I'd rather pay the good money I spent on a better quality restaraunt that actually serves good quality food like Texas Road House And yes, I know the difference between good food and cheap quality. I went to Le Cordon Bleu in Austin for Pastry Chef and St. Philips College to become a Culinary Chef and I have 15 + years experience in the restaraunt buisness, Produce education and I slaughtered Cows for many years. I do have a good back ground in food and I am also a 14 year Army Disabled Veteran injured in the line of Duty!! On the bottom there is a question on which dish would I recommend... My answer to that is non of the above, because ot was not on display for me to choose and eat from on Veterans Day!!! Then to top it off, DAV was right in the front entrance asking for donations!!! I gave a $20 donation because I love and respect all my brothers and sisters that served and are still serving!!! I can't share more about the topics, except the parking lot. Ypu should have more Handicap parking and wider spaces so every vehicle that parks can have enough space to open their door. (To those that are going to talk shit to me because I am posting my experience in this place, I honestly don't care if you get offended or not. I am here warning my fellow Veterans and Soldiers still serving our great Nation!! They deserve to be treated much better than the way this Golden Corral treated us on...
Read moreVery few restaurants in San Antonio were open on Thanksgiving 2022 besides hotel buffets. Even one popular restaurant on a Google search claiming to be open on Thanksgiving was not, which I verified twice. (I think a previous Thanksgiving 2021 review remained on their website. Be sure to call to verify any holiday opening.)
This Golden Corral is located on Loop 410 near the Summit Parkway exit, not far from Walmart and just south of Sam's Club, on the frontage road. As expected, the line at the front door at 1:00 PM was lonnnng. All parking spaces, including 4 handicap spaces, were full, because of this special holiday! Since I'm familiar with Sam's Club, I let my family out and parked in the Sam's Club parking lot. Normally, parking would not have been an issue. The line outside the entrance was slow at first, but picked up pace. It took about 35 minutes to transverse to the cashier to pay for our holiday meals. [Good news: my wife and I didn't have to ask for senior discounts for our meals. Bad news: we didn't have to ask.]
Golden Corral was well prepared for a large, Thanksgiving 2022 crowd. Terrific service on both sides of the buffet, there were many options from multiple buffet lines. For my part, I started by building, and actually eating, a healthy green salad to balance some less healthy treats. Then, I chose some traditional Thanksgiving dishes, like a slice of tender turkey breast and cornbread, green beans, and for us southerners, fried okra. I also chose a slice of ham and a generous portion of beef brisket. Known for their carrot cake, I chose a slice for dessert, though I'm usually a chocolate lover; the carrot cake was a good choice.
Again, service was great, particularly in spite of hundreds of patrons. Not exaggerating too much, I remarked to one hostess that by the end of the day, Golden Corral will have fed the equivalent of a small town. At no time did I hear a groan by any employee because of the throngs of diners. Our server in our section, wearing her own "turkey apron," checked on us, as well as other tables, several times. BTW, servers and other employees at Golden Corral can accept tips, and they were well-deserving today.
One last thing. I noticed a family paused before eating to pray and give thanks to the One who provided the first American...
Read moreThe Food and drinks are great provided you catch the staff in a good mood and on a good day. the best time to go 20 to 30 minutes right before lunch time because you can be able to eat breakfast and lunch under one receipt and they wont charge you extra for it. the extra charge is not out of being nice to save you money but its to save you money since they don't believe in discounts and the prices per person aren't always worth the amount paid nor is it justified by the food, drink, and customer service quality at times. coming here on a good day really is a luck of the draw because you might not always get your monies worth. the staff could be incompetent and careless and the cashier will charge you more for the same thing the previous customer in front of you was charged. also I heard they overwork and underpay their employees because they are expected to survive off customers tips all the time. this is no different than a homeless person begging on the street for money after washing your car windows! Golden Corral is a modern day slave shop who forces their employees to work for next to nothing and still expects to stay in business while higher management lives the good life filthy rich with benefits fuel by the blood, sweat, and tears rolling off the backs of its slaves! the place is great to be at on a good day but the people who run it are selfish, greedy, evil,...
