Response to owner Im not sure why you’re lying about her going to the hospital. I wasn’t in your establishment for more than 2 minutes. If her asthma is that bad she should have a desk job where she doesn’t have interaction with anyone that could “cause her an asthma attack”. Poor excuse for an employee with a terrible attitude.

I’m not sure how to get into contact with the owner but I am very very unhappy with the supposed “supervisor”. Whenever my partner and I came into get a matcha and fish pastry, the girl that works there wearing circular glasses started to spray febreeze in my girlfriends face while Victoria was taking her order. She then proceeded to say that she was doing it because I “smelled like smoke” and she had asthma. I have worked in restaurants for over 15 years in many different positions and I have NEVER experienced something like this. It was very rude and I understand if people have asthma. I get that. But as a professional, she should have walked into the back and left if she was having issues with her breathing. Not spray febreeze into my girlfriend’s face whenever I walked away. I decided to not buy anything myself and left to call to see if I could speak with a manager or the owner. She was very rude and before I had even mentioned what I was calling for she said “if this is about the febreeze I have asthma,” and I let her know that no matter what the issue is, that was completely unprofessional and unwarranted. You don’t spray chemicals into someone’s face. My girlfriend too, has issues with her breathing and your employee was completely out of line. This was my first time coming into your establishment and will be my last. I can not believe that happened and I hope that she’s not the reason your...

A True Gem in San Antonio: Hanamaru is a Must-Visit! Hanamaru has quickly become one of my absolute favorite spots in San Antonio, and for so many wonderful reasons! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a sense of sparkling cleanliness that is truly impressive. It's clear that the team takes immense pride in maintaining a welcoming and hygienic environment. But the experience goes far beyond just a clean space. The friendly staff are genuinely warm and attentive, always ready with a smile and helpful recommendations. They create such a positive and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like a regular, even on your first visit. And speaking of recommendations, you must try their iced tea with cream cheese cold foam! It sounds intriguing, and trust me, it is absolutely divine. The perfectly brewed tea, topped with that unbelievably smooth and slightly sweet cream cheese cold foam, is an incredibly unique and delightful treat. It's the kind of drink you'll find yourself craving long after you've finished it. What truly sets Hanamaru apart, though, is their commitment to the community. I've been so impressed by their involvement in local events and their genuine desire to foster a strong sense of connection. It's wonderful to support a business that actively gives back and creates a vibrant hub for the neighborhood. In short, Hanamaru offers a fantastic combination of delicious and innovative drinks (seriously, that iced tea!), a spotless environment, incredibly kind staff, and a heartwarming dedication to the San Antonio community. It's more than just a cafe; it's an experience. Do yourself a favor and visit Hanamaru – you won't be...

Tl;DR: Great dessert when they have inventory. Service and prices are constantly increasing and giving you less.

This place has some great taiyaki. They are cooked to perfection with a crispy exterior and soft/warm interior. I recommend pairing it with their matcha flavor ice cream, a strawberry straw, and matcha powder. That is my favorite dessert. If only you could oder it but management can't get their act together. We have visited this location multiple times throughout 2023 and every time they messed our order, we would delay our future visits, hoping things would get better. However, our hopes were in vain. In short, they are always out of stock on something, like strawberry straws, coffee straws, matcha, and taiyaki. When they are in stock, they are always understaffed or working with broken equipment. The last time we visited, we were quoted 20 minutes for our order. As the orders came out, the staff started rudely yelling the order numbers since customer weren't picking up their orders fast enough. I understand their frustration, but if you quote someone half an hour for one softserved ice cream and cone...

All of 2023 they have been short staffed and unable to full our orders. This last time we went, they didn't have Matcha and took over 25 minutes to put together a berry fruit cup. Although the menu says strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Mine was missing blackberries. I asked the staff member where the blackberries were? I was informed it didn't come with it. When I asked why their digital menu states blackberries, they said it was wrong and they haven't updated their menu. I was offered no compensation for...

Hanamaru Cafe is a small, family-owned Japanese cafe in San Antonio that specializes in taiyaki, a Japanese fish-shaped waffle filled with sweet or savory fillings. They also have a small selection of main dishes, including nikujaga, a Japanese beef and potato stew. I recently tried the nikujaga at Hanamaru Cafe, and I was very impressed. The stew was rich and flavorful, with tender beef and potatoes cooked in a savory and sweet dashi broth. The portion was generous, and I was able to enjoy leftovers for lunch the next day. The taiyaki at Hanamaru Cafe is also very good. I tried the ube (purple yam) filling, which was sweet and creamy. The waffles were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall, I had a great experience at Hanamaru Cafe. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. I would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese meal. Here are some other things to note about Hanamaru Cafe: The cafe is located in a small strip mall next to the Minnano Japanese grocery , but it's easy to find. The hours are basically 11am to 8pm, with some extended hours on weekends during the summer. They have a decent selection of boba and Japanese soft drinks (like Ramune). The prices are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend Hanamaru Cafe to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese meal. The nikujaga is a great option, but the taiyaki is also very good. The service is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. I would definitely go back again.

This place is my new favorite go-to for soft serve. Their unbelievably affordable Taiyakis are perfectly crispy and sweet like a waffle with a unique flavor and soft inside. If you get ice cream you have to get a cone or upside down as these taiyakis make it that much better. The soft serve (I got UBE) was sweet, creamy and yet not too heavy. The portions are great. Surprisingly, though, their food options are good too. We loved the bulgogi and chicken curry (the potatoes and sauce are DELICIOUS!) as well as the takoyaki (octopus balls). I tried the savory pepperoni mozzarella taiyaki and while it wasn't as cheesy as Elder Eats made it look, it was still yummy. My mom got an ube taiyaki and loved it so much she ordered another to go. My sister got the limited time chocoholic ice cream and it looked too good to be true. Rich, decadent chocolate ice cream, syrup, cookies and a chocolate taiyaki. Ultimately we will be going again! Ambience only 3 stars because it's uncomfortably cold and dark. Other than that nice and clean. Price wise- it adds up quickly. If you're planning on getting a drink (boba tea, matcha latte, lemonade), a lunch or snack item , and then ice cream, expect to spend 20 dollars a person. If you stick with just one thing it'd be under 10 dollars.
