This Park is Very hidden and located in a Residential neighborhood so most people might not know about if only by word of mouth. It's very shaded and has a trail to walk on or you can go biking. You can walk your dogs too, I've been here twice already. I must say a lot of people who visit do so to take photos, due to a gorgeous background. A VALID PHOTOGRAPHY PERMIT IS REQUIRED but people DO NOT LISTEN or RESPECT it and still do it. As a matter of fact, one family there was overheard saying "Oh No I came here because everywhere else you need a permit and I'm not going to pay" I did see bathrooms available but I don't recall seeing water fountains. One thing I love about this Park is the Labyrinth Walk that's available to use during a New or Full Moon. I saw some people doing yoga too, it offers a lot of trees with shade. It also has a man made pond/lake. There are many turtles and ducks and cypress knee trees too. The Gwangju Pavilion, a gift from South Korea to the people of San Antonio", in the form of a Korean pavilion similar in design to the Gwangju Democracy Bell, in Gwangju South Korea. The pavilion (which reflects the traditional Korean methods of construction) was designed to "facilitate business and cultural friendships" between the two cities of Gwangju, South Korea and San Antonio, TX, USA. The two cities are sister cities. Even though there are signs with a chain blocking access onto the Pavilion people DO NOT RESPECT it and STILL get on it. On the day I visited there was a graduate with a Photographer on it. It's one thing to disregard the rules but then to have someone hog up the whole Pavilion not allowing proper photos is annoying. One thing I like about this park is it doesn't get overly crowded and it has many areas for one to sit and enjoy the scenery. I can't wait to go back again, I'd recommend it to anyone. Please be sure to take water with you and maybe some towels...
Read moreWhat a beautiful little gem 😊 The beautiful pavillion was gifted from South Korea in 2010 and represents cultural friendship. No one is allowed on it/in it as there is a sign and chain blocking the stairway to the entrance. It overlooks a small, shallow duck pound which is also home to turtles. (For reference, the pond is maybe 18 inches deep). There's a trail that goes through a mini gate that matches the pavillion. The trail is maybe about half a mile around and is really pretty. However I was pretty disappointed to see all the trash and it looked pretty unkempt, which is why I deducted a star. But overall it's a very nice walk. It is dog friendly however there is a fine for unleashes dogs. No smoking or vaping is allowed of any kind as well. The bathrooms are dirty but not unbearable if you really have to go.
There's a really beautiful white plantation style house. It can be rented for events and photoshoots.
There are 2 cats that live by the parking lot, close to the house. People stop by and give them water and food. They have some bowls and plates in the bushes where you can present your contribution, please at least fill their water bowl. It was completely empty and we filled it up. You can see one of the cats laying on a table on the private property side. There are also lots of deer!
There's a no trespassing fence that starts at the house and goes around on the sides and back, you will get warned and possibly fined if you trespass. Security patrols the area and can be seen every now and then.
This is a beautiful park but please remember to respect the wildlife, pick up after yourself, and for goodness sakes please give the cats some...
Read moreI live this park but right now is under major reconstruction. I'm sure it's gonna look great after its done, but they need to hurry up. The ducks and test of the wildlife are waiting for the pond to fill up again. It looks pretty dire straights right now. It's still pretty good too make your own way and walk and make your own trail since parts are blocked off. A lot of people used to take pictures here too, but you can't really do that now. The nature is still breathtaking and the animals are still there except for the turtles and egrets, which I'm sure and hope the gave them good homes for the meantime. But it has a zen walking trail and lots and lots of land to roam. The house white house that looks like the smaller version of The Whitehouse. Ha! I've always wanted to come here before when it was someone's house. I just couldn't believe that now I can! It's just amazing! It also has this awesome, beautiful pavilion that was a gift from South Korea. It's the exact same replica of the one the have there and even if you go just to see this - it's worth it! Beautiful and...
