It is fair. The puffy tacos are too oily. I couldn't eat the 1 with fajita meat, I gagged. I was able to eat the guacamole puffy taco BUT I soaked up as much oil as I could. The refried items were OK the rice was boring. The salsa was good I mean I'm not craving it I don't think I'll ever rush back there to get it. just when I thought it was too hot it was good so and the chips were meh. the cheese and bean burrito was probably my favorite thing it's very huge 3 people could eat off of it. the cheese was concentrated in one spot I don't like that. if I ever go there again I will probably have some vegetables in the burrito. But I wanted a bean burrito cause to me that's the true test it's just get a traditional idea of a burrito because the tortilla and the beans should be great in a Mexican restaurant. Also the chips and salsa are a good test even case ideas the deal is I kind of wish I'd try to enchiladas that's another good test you're not to get something something with everything I'd like to test Mexican restaurants with traditional original no dishes. Because if the basic stuff is amazing all the other stuff is just extra so the beans the chips the sauce of the tortillas the rice if all that is amazing it almost doesn't even matter what all the extra stuff is. I am not thinking I need to get back to Henry's Puffy Tacos. IF I return it will probably be out of convenience or a tourist wants to go. But I want to go to a place where tourists don't want to go. I don't hate it but again I haven't been had it on my mind until I saw this suggestion to...
Read moreSan Antonio is known for great Tex Mex food and there is no shortage of great options for puffy tacos. Ray's deserves a shout out for their decades of service to the community. But for some of the best puffy tacos you will EVER have you have to - HAVE TO - give Henry's puffy tacos a try! The guacamole, spicy fajita, and bean and cheese are ALL stellar! The carne guisada is not what you're used to, so get the idea of juicy large chunks of beef or of your head. It tastes the same but the beef is shredded into the sauce and substantially a drier mouth feel, but still delicious. Their picadillo is also great. For a big treat get a combo with enchilada and puffy taco. You'll thank me. And if you dine in you can enjoy a nice watermelon margarita to get you in an even better mood to enjoy these delectable corn pillows from heaven with the gentlest of crispy outside and a delicious flavor to the masa that would be great even without fillings.
Some tips? Come with plenty of time. They are a San Antonio legend so there's a line and they are only made to order, and people order for a whole family, so there be a 20 minute wait. Even if you phone it in they don't process them until you arrive. If always fresh and always delicious. But it ain't fast food. This is also the sister site to the larger location on Bandera but I've always preferred it. I would post pictures but we devoured out food before i though about it! Again! Lol! Swing by and see what makes these such a popular San...
Read morePuffy Tacos are good there, but todays visit was some what OK. Good and kind service. But, I asked for cheese on my Carne Guisada taco. The taco that was given to me had no cheese. The taco barely had meat. No flavor. Thumbs down for that Taco. I also ordered the fajita taco with avacado. The taco was full and avacado didnt have that much in the taco. But, the flavor was good. So, it was a total of 2 tacos I ordered. So, with that plate I order charro beans on the side. Beans had good flavor, but the beans where not fully cooked yet. I did not complain, and I should have because the cost of the small charro beans was almost $3.00. I also order a drink of tea. Tea was good and was fresh. My husband tacos was delicious. He ordered the puffy taco plate. Everything was nice and fresh, but he did not like the charro beans. That was a disappointment. He ordered a drink and he got big red. He said it was good and had a lot of fiz. So, thumbs up for Big Red. I give them a 4 star. The other 2 time we have gone to Henry Puffy Taco was awesome. As far as price are concern. Henry Puffy Taco Place is pricey. It was just my husband and I, and it came out to $26 something. I guess its just depends on the cook and how well the person cooks. Sometimes it can be another cook. But, we go once a week. This was just our 3rd visit. So, I'm not ready to quit going yet....next time i will take pictures. Over all rating for the food. I gove it 3 star. Maybe nwxt time it...
